Overwatch 2 Hero Guide: Ramattra (Abilities, Tips & More)

Punish your enemies in Ranked with Overwatch's first “tempo tank”, Ramattra.

Stand Together

The memories of war have left a scarred world with an underlying hatred for Omnics. Realizing the threat of extinction should his limited kind continue on this path of complacency, Ramattra seeks to unite his kind to revolt against their human counterparts. Threatening the world with another global conflict, few can stand against Ramattra's wrath in his quest to achieve peace for his people — by any means necessary.

The Anubis god-program started the first Omnic crisis in the Overwatch storyline. It reactivated decommissioned Omniums, which were factories that manufactured subservient robots, and repurposed them to unleash deadly war machines that almost brought about human extinction.

In a recently released short story written by Gavin Jurgens Fyhrie titled “Ramattra: Reflections”, we find out that Ramattra has gotten one of the Omniums to start running again. Given Talon's involvement (as seen in “Storm Rising”), things are bound to reach its boiling point soon. As PvE is set to release sometime in 2023, fans are excited to see how the rest of Overwatch's story unfolds.

If you haven't already, here's our guide on how to unlock Ramattra in Overwatch 2.

Punish Them!

The former Shambali monk has shed his robes in exchange for a void accelerator staff he uses to damage heroes from afar. His “tempo tank” kit allows him to crowd control (cc) with his slow ability and devastates adversaries that get too close. Furthermore, his highly dangerous ultimate ability, Annihilation, stands in direct contrast to his brother Zenyatta's.

Knowing oneself is always the first step. Press on to discover all you need to know about Ramattra's hero abilities.

Void Accelerator

  • Ramattra's staff fires a stream of nanobots from his staff
  • Has no damage falloff and can headshot
  • Only Ramattra's Omnic form can command the Void Accelerator
  • Replaced by “Pummel” when Ramattra enters Nemesis form

Void Barrier

  • Ramattra places a 1000 HP shield on the ground/any structure (ie. payload, Bob, Ice Wall)
  • lasts for 4 seconds (14s cooldown)
  • only Ramattra's Omnic form can summon the Void Barrier
  • replaced by “Block” when Ramattra enters Nemesis form

How to Unlock Ramattra in Overwatch 2

Ravenous Vortex

  • Ramattra throws a ball of nanites on the ground that explodes into a swarm that damages, slows and pulls aerial enemies to the ground (extremely badass)
  • 15 damage per second; applies -40% movement speed penalty
  • lasts for 2 seconds
  • 12s cooldown
  • pulls down enemies who are ±10m above ground
  • can be used by both Omnic and Nemesis forms

  • Ramattra transforms into his Nemesis form and surrounds himself with a raging aura that continuously damages nearby foes
  • 30 damage per second
  • Annihilation persists up to 20 seconds as long as there are enemies caught within its AOE (13m)
  • transforming into Nemesis form can't be interrupted

Clever Tactics

Void Accelerator, much like Kiriko's Kunai can be aimed at the enemy's horizontal “head line” to deal more critical damage, charging your ultimate faster. On top of that, you also effectively poke enemies from mid range. Given that damage is consistent from any distance, you may also weaken faraway enemies to give fighting allies a better advantage.

Void Barrier is best reserved for big ults/saving an ally from certain death due to the barrier's short duration and long cooldown. Its utility is understated, giving players a 35m distance range whenever a teammate is trying to escape their pursuers.

Nemesis Form‘s extra armor ups your survivability drastically. Quickly transform and use Block to shield immediate allies from harm. On the other hand, feel free to punish those who come too close or wander too far from the enemy team's sight lines. Playing in a literal “Hulkbuster” is serious fun, but take note of its long cooldown.

Overwatch 2 Competitive Ranks Guide for Season 10 (2024)

Pummel still passes through Zarya's bubble but does not damage the person inside it. Genji can avoid Pummel's damage with his Deflect ability, and Baptiste's Amplification Matrix strengthens Ramattra's Pummel attacks.

Block is a beast of a hero ability. Extending to certain ultimate abilities (i.e. D.Va's Self-destruct, Hanzo's Dragonstrike, Torbjorn's Molten Core), its Ramattra's strongest defense when used correctly. There are some heroes abilities he can't defend well against, however. Ultimate abilities whose damage is based upon an enemy's max health can't be buffered by your Block, and Tracer's Pulsebomb still deals the same amount of damage in its explosion.

Ravenous Vortex‘s zoning capability grants even more versatility to Ramattra's kit. Use this with Annihilation to make enemies stay in your AOE damage aura longer. A well-timed throw could see the enemy's momentum falter. Besides that, there are a few enemy counters to keep an eye on. D.Va's Defense Matrix, Orisa's Javelin Spin, Sigma's Kinetic Grasp and Genji's Deflect can all outright destroy your Ravenous Vortex.

Further, Vortex can actually pull down enemies who are affected by Wrecking Ball's Piledriver and Sigma's ultimate, Gravitic Flux. This does not prevent the damaging effects from occurring, however. And Doomfist's Rocket Punch speed incredulously doesn't seem to be reduced by Ramattra's nanite swarm.

Annihilation‘s damaging aura can only be blocked by Zarya's bubbles and Mei's Ice Wall. Invulnerable enemies like a transcended Zenyatta or an enemy under Kiriko's suzu are unaffected. Enemy structures like turrets cannot be damaged in the swarm, whereas B.O.B. can be. Lastly, Sombra avoids the swarm while invisible, as long as she remains undetected.

With Overwatch 2's PvE coming into full force in 2023, players all over the globe are excited to see where this chapter takes the protagonists of the next generation of heroes. If one thing is for certain, it's that Null Sector's leader is one mean, lean, fighting machine.
