Omniknight is a guardian on the front lines of battle who is always eager to join his team in fights. Radiant by nature and quite literally by affiliation, he is a unique Hero. Armed with a holy fervor, this Hero is a potent support character capable of turning the tides of any fight with his heavenly blessings. Omniknight's potential to protect allies and disrupt enemy plays makes him an excellent pick in various game scenarios.

Omniknight, commonly known as Omni, is a Strength Hero with a solid base HP of 626, backed by a Mana pool of 267. He can hold his own in the early game with a base attack damage ranging from 54-64 per hit and a base movement speed of 315. Additionally, his respectable armor level of 4.5 boosts his survivability in lanes.

Despite his benevolent appearance, playing Omniknight effectively requires a keen sense of positioning, solid map awareness, and an aptitude for strategic decision-making. His abilities make him a sturdy ally and a formidable adversary.

Abilities

Dota 2 Omniknight Guide

Omniknight’s holy abilities set him apart in Dota 2's diverse lineup. Let’s take a closer look at his abilities.

  • Purification – A point target ability that heals an allied unit and damages all nearby enemies. This dual-natured spell offers an incredible advantage during team fights, pushing enemy units back while reinforcing allies. Purification deals and heals 90 HP at level 1, scaling up to 300 at max level. The damage radius is 260.
  • Repel –  Applies a shield of holy light around a target ally, granting them bonus strength of up to 28 and health regen of up to 20 per debuff currently on the unit. The ability also grants the unit debuff immunity for 6 seconds, and has a cooldown of at least 36 seconds.

  • Hammer Of Purity- Omniknight throws his hammer to a target, dealing pure damage based on a percentage of his base damage, and slows the target. He gets a bonus base damage, increasing from 60% at level 1 to 120% at level 4. Hammer Of Purity also deals 50 damage at level 1, which scales to 125 damage at max level. It also slows movement by 14% at level 1 and 38% at max level.

    • Aghanim’s Shard Upgrade – Omniknight is healed for 30% of the damage dealt by Hammer of Purity. Every 6 seconds, his next attack will fire a Hammer of Purity at the target.
  • Guardian Angel – Omniknight's ultimate ability grants invulnerability from physical damage to him and his allies for a short period. This can be the deciding factor in team fights, rendering the enemy's physical attacks futile. Guardian Angel lasts for 5 seconds at level 1 and extends up to 7 seconds at max level. It also provides a status resist of 40% and has a radius of 1200.

    • Aghanim’s Scepter Upgrade – Increases duration, grants Status Resist, expands radius, and affects buildings.

Dota 2 Omniknight Guide – Tips

Omni’s sanctifying abilities and divine aura make him a resilient protector on the battlefield. Purification serves a dual purpose, healing your allies while damaging enemies in its radius. Use Repel on your ally to make them a formidable force in fights. Use Hammer Of Purity to deal damage and slow your enemies movement speed. Your ultimate Guardian Angel shields the team from physical damage, making it an influential tool in team fights.

Omni is primarily played as an offlaner or a hard support. In the offlane role, he utilizes his sustain and durability to pressure the enemy carry and support, reducing their farm and levels. As a support, his exceptional healing and defensive abilities keep the team's cores alive and swinging.

Getting experience and farming is crucial for Omni, though not in the traditional sense. The Hero's goal isn't to get rich but to ensure his carries do. He excels in creating a safe farming environment for his team's core Heroes. However, his abilities also mean that Omni can farm reasonably well when needed, especially if you are in a solo lane situation. Purification can quickly clear creep waves, while the bonus strength from Repel lets you tank creep damage without losing too much Health.

  • Doesn't require very high skill to play well

Cons

  • Relatively low mobility

How to Play Omniknight

Now, let's delve into a detailed phase-by-phase breakdown on how to play Omniknight effectively.

Starting Items

Kick off the game with Tangoes for Health regeneration, a couple of Iron Branches for a small boost in overall attributes, and a Healing Salve. A Gauntlet Of Strength and a Faerie Fire are also good starting items for you. 1 or 2 Blood Grenades will help you to deal extra damage and finish off enemies. Overall, these items should give you an initial edge, helping you withstand the early aggression from your opponents.

Early Game

The early game is all about ensuring the survivability of your lane partner and yourself. The first ability you should level up is Purification, which you can use to heal your carry or yourself and to deal damage to the enemy Heroes.

As you gather gold, focus on buying items like a Magic Stick for burst Health and Mana regeneration, Boots of Speed for increased movement, and possibly a Ring of Protection for added armor. If you find yourself with extra money, building towards a Soul Ring can be helpful for Mana sustainability. Meanwhile, start leveling up Repel to enhance your carry's durability in the lane.

Mid Game

Moving into the mid game, your role as a protector becomes crucial. Keep your teammates alive during fights, using Purification to heal them and deal damage to enemies. You should have at least one point in your ultimate Guardian Angel by now. Use this ability strategically in larger team fights to provide immunity from physical damage to your team.

Item-wise, upgrade your Boots of Speed to Arcane Boots to increase your Mana pool and provide Mana replenishment for nearby allies. Build a Mekansm for additional healing during fights. Depending on the enemy team's composition, a Glimmer Cape can provide magic resistance and a brief invisibility period, useful for saving an ally or yourself from perilous situations. Also, an Aether Lens increases the cast range of spells and provides Mana regen.

Late Game

As the game progresses into the late stages, your focus should be the same – protecting and supporting your team. Your ultimate Guardian Angel should be maximized by this point, offering extensive protection against physical damage in team fights. Your Hammer of Purity also becomes significant during this phase as you can use it to slow enemies and deal pure damage, aiding your team in securing crucial kills.

Regarding items, aim to upgrade your Mekansm to Guardian Greaves for improved team utility and healing. A Lotus Orb can be a worthy addition to your arsenal, providing increased armor, Mana regen, and a protective barrier. Against high burst damage, an Aeon Disk can be invaluable, ensuring you don't get taken out early in the fights. Scythe Of Vyse is another useful item at this stage for better control of enemies.

Dota 2 Omniknight Counters

While Omniknight can be a sturdy ally and a tenacious foe, certain Heroes can give him a tough time on the battlefield.

  • Outworld Destroyer – Outworld Destroyer (OD) is a natural counter to Heroes like Omni, who rely heavily on their Mana pool to function effectively. OD's Astral Imprisonment can temporarily remove Omni or his targeted ally from a fight. Meanwhile, OD's Arcane Orb deals massive damage to Heroes with large Mana pools, which makes Omni an ideal target.
  • Silencer – Silencer is one of the most potent counters to any Hero that relies on their abilities to make an impact, and Omni is no exception. Silencer's Last Word and Global Silence can stop Omni from casting his spells, rendering him helpless in fights.
  • Doom – Doom can be a hard counter to Omniknight. His ultimate, Doom, completely disables Omni's abilities, leaving him unable to cast his heals or provide immunity. This can dramatically reduce his impact during crucial team fights.
  • Invoker – Invoker can be a tricky enemy for Omniknight. His Tornado can dispel Omni’s Repel, while Cold Snap can interrupt his attempts to cast spells. Also, the EMP can drain Omni’s Mana, leaving him without resources to cast his abilities.
