The best and worst heroes to play in Overwatch 2 Season 4, including the recently released Lifeweaver in our Overwatch 2 Season 4 Heroes Tier List.
The release of Season 4 brought various balance changes to Overwatch 2 heroes, increasing the efficiency of some while nerfing others. If you are wondering whether your main is still viable to win games and climb the competitive ranks, here is a complete Overwatch 2 Season 4 heroes tier list explaining why you should play or avoid specific characters.
S-Tier Heroes
The heroes reaching the S-Tier section of our Overwatch 2 Season 4 heroes tier list are the best characters to play right now to win competitive games. They all have great mobility and work well together. Their respective kits are among the best, and while playing them doesn’t guarantee a win, you should be able to climb more easily by having them on your team.
Tracer
Tracer is regularly on the top of the Overwatch 2 heroes tier list, and Season 4 is no exception. Her high mobility allows Tracer to run around the map to pick enemy supports, either killing them or distracting the supports long enough to prevent them from fully healing their team. She forces the enemy support players to stay on their toes and sometimes even requires a DPS to stay with them to deal with Tracer, weakening the front line. While Tracer is not an easy hero to master, she can wreak havoc when played properly and is one of the best DPS heroes to play in Overwatch 2 Season 4.
Brigitte
Brigitte received a major buff to her Rally ultimate ability with the release of Overwatch 2 Season 4. The previous balance patches removed her ability to grant allies additional armor in favor of temporary health, which wasn’t an immediate buff but required time to build up leaving her allies exposed to danger. To make up for this change, Overwatch 2 developers brought various improvements to Rally in Season 4.
Rally now upgrades Brigitte’s Barrier Shield, increasing both its size and health which goes from 300 to 750 during the ultimate. She now gains 100 restorable armor health pool for the duration of Rally, and it no longer gradually builds temporary health like her nearby allies. The biggest buff to Rally is that while the ultimate ability is active, Shield Bash now impacts multiple enemies and briefly stuns them like in the golden days of the stun meta. However, the bonus movement speed from Rally is reduced from 30 to 15%. Brigitte’s Repair Pack gets a slight nerf, with its range reduced from 30 to 25 meters. These changes make Brigitte more powerful than ever, and her Rally is enough to win fights that could make or break games.
Kiriko
Kiriko fits well in the fast-paced meta of Overwatch 2 and its 5v5 dynamic. She has great mobility allowing her to escape her opponents and quickly join an ally that needs help to throw her Healing Ofuda to restore them back to full health. Her Protection Suzu can help her team win fights, as allies in its area of impact become briefly invulnerable and are cleansed of most negative effects. Kiriko's ultimate ability, Kitsune Rush, boosts her entire team by accelerating their movement, attack speed, and cooldowns. Overall, Kiriko shines in most situations, no matter the map or team composition, and her fast-paced gameplay works great with the current meta, granting her a place in the S-tier section of our Overwatch 2 Season 4 heroes tier list.
Ramattra
If you’re looking to select a tank hero to win games in Overwatch 2 Season 4, Ramattra is the best option. This versatile hero can switch between his Omnic and Nemesis forms to either provide defensive support for his teammates with Void Barrier or push forward with Pummel. Ramattra’s Ravenous Vortex, available in both forms, slows down his opponents so his team can kill them more easily. Ramattra is a tempo tank hero that works well with the current meta and deserves a spot on the S-tier of this Overwatch 2 Season 4 heroes tier list.
Baptiste
Baptiste has always been a reliable support hero, able to keep his team alive under heavy fire and make them invincible while his Immortality Field is up. If he usually hovers in the A-tier section of our Overwatch 2 heroes tier lists, Brigitte's return in the meta with the release of Season 4 bumps Baptiste in the S-tier as he works great with this fellow support hero. Playing alongside Brigitte requires her team to play close to each other to benefit from her abilities, which is the perfect setting for Baptiste to use his Biotic Launcher and Regenerative Burst, and protect as many teammates as possible with his Immortality Field.
A-Tier Heroes
A-Tier heroes work well in most situations and if one of them is your main, then you are in luck. While they are slightly less overpowered than S-Tier heroes, they remain a viable pick in Overwatch 2 Season 4 competitive games.
Mei
Mei is one of the best DPS heroes to play against brawl and stun-based meta, as she can slow down her opponents to buy some time for her team to finish them or escape from deadly abilities. Since Brigitte is at the top of our Overwatch 2 Season 4 tier list thanks to the buff to her Rally ultimate ability, Mei gains a few places in this ranking thanks to her useful tempo kit. While she is not an easy hero to master, playing Mei can help you reach Grandmaster in Overwatch 2 Season 4.
Lucio
Lucio is a great support hero to play if you want to climb the competitive ranks in Overwatch 2 Season 4, but cannot reach the S-tier section of this list as he lacks synergy with Brigitte and her stun meta. Lucio provides constant healing and can speed boost his team, but lacks the ability to bring his entire team back to full health in a short amount of time should they fall under heavy enemy fire.
Bastion
Bastion is as powerful in Overwatch 2 Season 4 as he was during Season 3, being a reliable pick to destroy enemy front lines and shields. He didn’t receive any change to his abilities with the Season 4 patch notes and can prove efficient against the stun meta as he can stay at a distance while firing at the enemy team.
Zenyatta
Zenyatta has always been one of the trickiest support heroes to play in Overwatch 2. In the right hands, he can outperform some DPS heroes while providing a decent healing output. His ultimate ability, Transcendence, can help his team move forward without fearing their opponents, or save his allies from an enemy's ultimate ability. Last but not least, his Orb of Discord can make his teammates take down an enemy faster as it makes them receive +25% damage.
However, Zenyatta has a high skill requirement that requires practice. In the hands of someone who doesn't master this support hero, Zenyatta can turn into a useless squishy with low mobility, making him vulnerable to enemy attacks. And if Zenyatta dies, his orbs disappear with him and he won't charge Transcendence, making him useless. Zeynatta is a tricky hero to master but can shine in the Overwatch 2 Season 4 meta if played correctly.
Widowmaker
Widowmaker is a situational pick that works great on some maps but is terrible on others. As a sniper, she has the ability to wreak havoc on the enemy team, killing her opponents with a single shot while staying out of their damage range. However, Widowmaker will be useless on maps with a lot of natural covers as her enemies will hide, or against dive enemies that will prevent her from choosing the best position. If you have good aim, a map with a good view of your opponents, and no one to chase you away from your position, pick Widowmaker. Otherwise, another hero like Hanzo or Cassidy could be a better fit. Since the current meta doesn't rely on shields or dive heroes, Widowmaker has more room to shine in Overwatch 2 Season 4 than in the previous competitive seasons.
Hanzo
Just like Widowmaker, Hanzo is a tricky character to play. While he benefits from better mobility than Widowmaker and can reposition faster, he still requires a learning curve to master all his abilities and land deadly shots. Hanzo may not be of much use against Tracer, but he works well against Brigitte and her brawl/stun meta.
Wrecking Ball
Wrecking Ball doesn’t really need anyone to be efficient and harass the enemy’s back line. While mastering the hamster hero is not easy, he can be a real threat if played properly. He can help create space for his team, but may lack healing as the current meta revolves around Brigitte and her improved Rally ultimate ability.
Winston
Winston is a good tank hero able to disrupt the enemy team by diving onto their supports or snipers. However, since the current meta favors a brawl type of composition and features several stun abilities, Winston can easily be trapped away from his team and die without being able to do much. If your team has a Tracer, you can play Winston to help her secure picks or create a diversion while the picks the enemy support players.
Sombra
Sombra didn’t receive many changes with the release of Overwatch 2 Season 4, but a single one that could change everything when she plays against Mei: Sombra’s EMP can now disable Blizzard, just like any other device-controlled ultimates. Since Mei is powerful against the current meta and Sombra has great synergy with Tracer, she is among the best DPS to play to win games in Overwatch 2 Season 4.
Sigma
In the latest Overwatch 2 Season 4 patch notes, the developers addressed the lethal combo of Sigma’s Accretion and primary fire, which guaranteed a kill against 200 health targets. To prevent Sigma from being too powerful, the Overwatch 2 team reduced the impact damage of Sigma’s Accretion from 60 to 40, with total damage of 80 with the explosion. To make up for this reduction in DPS, the knockdown duration of Accretion is increased from 0.8 to 1.1 seconds. While Sigma is slightly less powerful than he used to be, he remains one of the best tanks to play in Overwatch 2 Season 4.
Echo
Echo hasn’t changed much since the release of Overwatch 2. She is fairly balanced at the moment, with good mobility and decent damage output. The biggest threat Echo poses is when she uses her Duplicate ultimate ability to copy an enemy hero and gain use of their abilities, whether offensive or defensive.
Moira
While Moira has always been a powerful support hero, the recent changes to her abilities make her stronger than ever before. Moira can now use Fade during her Coalescence, allowing her to reposition quickly to either wipe out the enemy team or save her allies. Coalescence’s bonus movement speed was reduced from 50 to 40%, which remains a strong buff despite this recent nerf. On top of being able to reposition during her Coalescence, Moira also heals more than she used to, with the lingering heal duration of her Biotic Grasp increasing from 2 to 3 seconds. These buffs make Moira reach the A-Tier section of this Overwatch 2 Season 4 heroes tier list.
Sojourn
The release of Overwatch 2 Season 4 didn’t bring any changes to Sojourn’s abilities, who already benefit from good mobility and damage output at mid-range. While there are better DPS heroes to play in this new competitive season, Sojourn remains a decent pick for those who know how to play her properly.
Zarya
Zarya has always been a reliable tank hero to push on the enemy front line while protecting her teammates. She works great with the top support characters from this Overwatch 2 Season 4 heroes tier list, especially Brigitte, as she deals massive damage at short range and can provide shields to her allies.
B-Tier Heroes
B-Tier characters are decent, but not the best heroes to play in Overwatch 2 Season 4. While they are somewhat balanced, they could use a buff to reach the S-Tier of this Overwatch 2 Season 4 heroes tier list and wreak havoc on the battlefield.
Cassidy
The Overwatch 2 developers found Cassidy was way too powerful during Overwatch 2 Season 3. Landing a single shot after sticking a Magnetic Grenade on an enemy guaranteed a kill, which made the hitscan hero too efficient in 5v5 fights. The Overwatch 2 Season 4 patch notes reduced the damage of his Magnetic Grenade from 131 to 120, evenly split between the direct target damage and explosion. It also made Cassidy more vulnerable by reducing his base health from 225 to 200, as the hero doesn’t need to play at close range anymore since his primary fire recently received a reduced falloff-damage buff. Overall, Cassidy remains a good pick for hitscan lovers, but he isn’t as powerful as he used to be.
D.Va
While D.Va is a good tank hero who can easily create space for her team, she isn’t the best fit with Brigitte and her close-range battle style. Picking D.Va can be a good idea if you play around with health packs or know when to fall back to avoid dying, but relying on her Boosters’ cooldown can be tricky.
Lifeweaver
Lifeweaver is the latest character to join the Overwatch 2 lineup. This support hero comes with interesting abilities, with his Healing Blossom following their targets to heal them even if they use movement abilities after it’s fired and Petal Platform that throws a platform that springs upwards when stepped on, granting additional vertical mobility. Besides healing, Lifeweaver can also grab his allies to pull them to his location with Life Grip, preventing his target from taking crowd control damage and being able to use it on B.O.B. to reposition Ashe’s ultimate.
Despite this great kit, Lifeweaver doesn’t make it to the top of our Overwatch 2 Season 4 heroes tier list because of two major flaws that can cost him a lot in competitive games. Lifeweaver’s hitbox is one of the largest in the entire game, making him an easy target for his opponents. Should a flanker like Tracer decide to take him down, they would not only be able to kill a support hero in a few shots but they would also get healed for that as Lifeweaver drops a Parting Gift upon its death that heals the first enemy or ally to pick it up.
Junkrat
Junkrat is a situational pick that excels in narrow spaces but struggles in more open areas. This DPS hero can deal massive damage without requiring a high skill level, and most players can secure kills with Junkrat even if they don’t know how to aim. However, Junkrat is not at the top of this Overwatch 2 Season 4 heroes tier list because of his lack of efficiency on maps where he cannot make his projectiles bounce on his enemies and trap them in closed areas.
Reinhardt
The Overwatch 2 team believed Reinhardt to be too powerful after the recent buff to his offensive abilities. To balance the tank hero, the latest patch notes reduced his armor health from 300 to 250 and increased his base health from 175 to 200. While Reinhardt remains a decent hero, he isn’t as strong as he used to be and can lack efficiency when compared to other heroes from this Overwatch 2 Season 4 tier list.
Ashe
While Ashe received a major buff to her ultimate ability in March 2023, the release of Overwatch 2 Season 4 make her drop a few places in our heroes tier list. March’s update made B.O.B. focus on the same target as Ashe, helping her defeat her opponents more easily instead of having B.O.B. fire at a random target. However, the Season 4 patch notes fixed a bug that was pretty useful for Ashe players, as the hero used to gain ultimate charge while B.O.B. was active. It is no longer the case, meaning that Ashe now takes longer to retrieve her ultimate and summon B.O.B. once again. Moreover, Ashe struggles to find a place in the current meta, and while she remains a reliable DPS she isn’t the best pick to climb the ranks in Overwatch 2 Season 4.
Junker Queen
The queen of Junkertown makes it to the B-tier section of our Overwatch 2 Season 4 heroes tier list. She can deal damage over time to her enemies thanks to her Jagged Blade and Carnage while healing herself with her Adrenaline Rush restoring health based on the wound damage dealt by Junker Queen. This tank hero has high survivability but fewer health points than others, making her a fun pick but not the most efficient one to win games in Overwatch 2 Season 4.
Soldier: 76
Soldier: 76 was among the best heroes in Overwatch 2 Season 3, especially thanks to the buff to his recoil. However, the Season 4 meta isn’t the best for him to shine, as it relies on flankers and melee heroes that Soldier: 76 won’t be able to pick from afar.
Symmetra
Symmetra is a great pick to win games in lower ranks, where the enemy team is oblivious to her turrets and can die before noticing them. However, in higher competitive tiers Symmetra struggles to find her place in fast-paced groups filled with divers. She can protect her support teammates from flankers, but lacks the tools to compete with characters from the S-tier section of this list.
Torbjörn
Just like Symmetra, Torbjörn is a real threat in lower competitive ranks but he struggles to compete with a brawl, dive, or stun-based meta. Since Brigitte is among the best heroes to play in Overwatch 2 Season 4, Torbjörn falls to the B-tier of this ranking.
Ana
The reign of Ana sleeping everyone isn’t over yet, but she won’t be as efficient against tanks as she used to be. Overwatch 2 developers realized that the Sleep Dart was a little too easy to land on tanks due to their large hitboxes, resulting in Ana players consistently stopping the front line by landing a well-timed sleep. To prevent her from putting the only tank in 5v5 teams to sleep, the Overwatch 2 Season 4 patch notes reduce the maximum duration of Sleep Dart on tank heroes from 5 to 3.5 seconds, which is a 30% nerf. Ana remains a great support player thanks to her Biotic Grenade and overall kit, but reducing the duration of Sleep Dart made her drop a few places in our Overwatch 2 Season 4 heroes tier list.
Mercy
Mercy’s mobility was recently changed, with an increase in Guardian Angel's jump-cancel mobility at the cost of some limitations with this ability, especially after resurrecting a teammate. To help balance this effect, her Guardian Angel cooldown was reduced from 2.5 to 1.5 seconds, the Jump and Crouch cancel active ability state can no longer be manually interrupted to begin the cooldown early and its duration was increased from 1.0 to 1.5 seconds. This will require Mercy players to change their habits and rethink the way they fly around, otherwise they may be at risk of getting killed by the enemy team.
Mercy’s Caduceus Staff received some changes as well, with her healing-per-second increased from 45 to 55 but no longer boosted when healing allies under half health. While Mercy remains a safe pick that works in most situations, the changes to her mobility will require some time to master and may surprise some players.
Pharah
While Pharah didn’t receive any buff with the release of the new competitive season, she secures a spot in the B-tier of our Overwatch 2 Season 4 heroes tier list simply because all of the heroes who can contest her are not in the best shape right now. She can fly around and deal damage to the enemy team or defend her support teammates with little to no contest, allowing her to stay alive long enough to charge her ultimate ability and try to wipe several enemies with her Barrage. However, as Mercy isn’t among the best support heroes to play right now, it can be tough for Pharah to find her place in the current meta.
Meh-Tier Heroes
Bad news if your favorite Overwatch 2 character is on this list: the heroes from the Meh-Tier are not in their best shape, and unless you’re really good at playing them, they might not be the best pick to win games in Season 4.
Doomfist
After dominating the first weeks of Overwatch 2, Doomfist received various nerfs putting him back to the bottom of our heroes tier list. This hero has a steep learning curve and isn’t among the best ones to deal damage, protect his team or disrupt the enemies, so he ends up in the Meh-Tier category.
Reaper
Reaper shines at close range, dealing massive damage to tank heroes and anyone getting too close to him. Unfortunately for Reaper, the current meta favors stuns and could easily prevent him from wreaking havoc, interrupting his Death Blossom, and stopping him from getting away with his Wraith Form.
Orisa
Orisa often struggles to shine in competitive Overwatch 2 games, and Season 4 will be no exception. With her low mobility and the nerfs to her Fortify health bonus, Orisa lacks the resources to reach higher tiers of this list.
Roadhog
After months of being considered one of the best tank heroes to play in Overwatch 2, Roadhog received various nerfs to reduce the efficiency of his Chain Hook and Scrap Gun combo which no longer kills enemies in a single shot. Since he isn’t as powerful as before and lacks the mobility to keep up with the best characters from this Overwatch 2 Season 4 heroes tier list, Roadhog isn’t the best tank to play right now.
Genji
Genji didn’t receive any changes with the release of Overwatch 2 Season 4, but that doesn’t prevent him from being at the bottom of our tier list. He isn’t a terrible character to select, but the current stun meta prevents him from being efficient peaking his enemies and performing a devastating Dragonblade.
That wraps up our Overwatch 2 Season 4 heroes tier list! Stay tuned to ESTNN for more updates on Overwatch 2 and check out which heroes you should play to climb the competitive ranks.
