Fortnite Adds “Stonks” Skin On April Fools’ Day

Epic Games continues to break barriers with another meme-worthy addition in Fortnite Battle Royale.

Epic Games has an unfathomable ability to pull noteworthy characters into the game's universe. Case and point is Chapter 2 – Season 4, where Marvel Comics became Fortnite's focal point. This partnership affected the in-game landscape with locations like Doom's Domain and Stark Industries and the Battle Pass, which became all-Marvel. Chapter 2 – Season 5 took that one step further with a storyline that revolved around hunters, paving a path for Street Fighter, Terminator, and Alien characters to join the action.

Chapter 2 – Season 6 continued that trend to an extent, but Epic's move on April Fools' Day sent shockwaves across the Fortnite fandom. Stock fiends may recognize the iconic ‘Stonks' meme. That meme's mascot known as ‘Meme Man' is now a character in the famous Battle Royale title.

Diamond Hanz

According to the ‘Know Your Meme' website, the ‘Stonks' character originated in 2017 as “a reaction image online in jokes about making poor financial decisions.” It may not be familiar to the majority of Fortnite's fanbase, but the recent Reddit wallstreetbets and GameStop fiasco resurrected this age-old meme. Topical in their approach, Epic surprised fans by adding the ‘Diamond Hanz' cosmetic outfit as part of the ‘To The Moon!' set. For 1,200 V-Bucks, players can get their hands on the Stonks guy and an orange up-arrow back bling.

The Stonks skin is available in-game right now for an undetermined amount of time. Those interested might want to purchase the new cosmetic outfit before Epic removes it from the Item Shop. With TikTok dances and movie characters now finding their way into Fortnite, there's no telling what could come next for Epic Games and Fortnite.
