Dota 2: Five Heroes You Should Be Using Before it is Too Late

With Tour 1 ending in just a week, we go over 5 heroes you should be using in the current Dota 2 meta — before it's too late!

We are just a week away from the end of Tour 1 of the 2023 DPC in all regions. Even though we do not know an official date for the new Dota 2 patch, we expect it to arrive soon. As you probably remember, Valve revealed Muerta at TI 11 and said that the hero would be available in early 2023.

Although we are excited about what is to come, the new update means that the current meta won’t be active anymore. Speaking of the devil, it has been around for a while, which means that some people know what to do the make the most of it. However, others weren’t so lucky, which is why we’ve decided to come up with this Dota 2 guide.

You’re about to see a couple of Dota 2 heroes that you should be using right now.  They are strong in the current meta, but this may no longer be the case once the new patch arrives. So, let’s go through them.

Rubick

As mentioned in our previous article about this hero, Rubick is among the strongest position 4 heroes in the game right now. His lane presence, gank potential, and ability to make a real difference during fights make him incredibly popular. No wonder he is the go-to hero for many of the best Dota 2 teams.

The only problem when you decide to play with Rubick is related to his ultimate. Learning how to use his ult and which abilities to steal is one of the things that differentiate the good from the bad Rubick players. Although it seems easy on paper, some people spend countless hours playing until they master it.

Rubick does not have that many counters, but similar to other supports, he is vulnerable against targets with high burst damage. Thankfully, he counters many of the best team-fight heroes in Dota 2, such as Enigma and Magnus.

Tusk

Even though some people have been using Tusk since this patch’s beginning, others haven’t realized his potential until recently. Thankfully, the best teams in the 2023 DPC have been using him for a while, which allowed people to see his prowess.

Tusk is probably the most annoying position 4 hero in the game right now. Although he may not be as good as Rubick in some situations, he is way better than others. Sure, he can’t steal other heroes’ abilities, but he has an insane amount of damage. In fact, players like Resolut1ion have been using the famous “one-shot build” that allows Tusk to kill squishies in no time.

In addition to his damage output, Tusk is a popular hero because of his ganking potential. Having him on your team means you can gank every lane. Moreover, you can use his snowball to escape or chase, depending on the situation.

Lina

Of course, an article about the best Dota 2 heroes to get during Tour 1 of the 2023 DPC has to include the most broken name in the game. As mentioned in our previous Lina article, this is probably the strongest hero in Dota 2 right now. Once a deadly mid-laner, Lina is now a position 1 monster capable ot out farming everything.

Lina's ability to farm fast and win lanes is the big thing that differentiates her from other popular carries. Thanks to her range and high base damage, she can easily harass any melee offlaner. Although she is squishy, Lina also has a stun, so she could avoid ganks.

To make the most while playing with Lina in Pubs, you should copy the popular item build. There are a couple of options to choose from, so make sure to check some of the best Dota 2 players to see what they’re doing.

Nature’s Prophet

While talking about heroes that you must try before it is too late, we must include Nature’s Prophet. This is one of those Dota 2 heroes that comes “on and off”  every couple of patches. He was one of the best offlaners many years ago, and players like MinD_ContRoL and AdmiralBullDog used him a lot. However, it seems like those days are gone because most of the top-tier Dota 2 players prefer to take the safe lane.

Nature’s Prophet is famous for being one of the best laners in Dota 2. He can play against pretty much everything and farm the side camps, as well as his lane. Moreover, his ability to teleport anywhere on the map allows him to help his team with ganks. Needless to say, we also have to mention the hero’s global ultimate, which increases his farming speed and kill potential.

Although most Dota 2 pros pick Furion as a carry, we’ve seen the hero in the mid-lane. Despite not having any nukes (aside from his ult), his high damage, attack animation, range, and attack speed allow him to be efficient against many heroes.

Razor

Unless you haven’t played Dota 2 in a while, you’ve probably heard about the current patch and the fact that Razor is broken. Even though the hero hasn’t received any substantial buffs, people discovered a new item built. Instead of focusing on his tankiness and physical damage, the best Dota 2 players decided to get items that allowed them to do more magical damage.

Currently, Razor’s go-to item is Bloodstone and Aghs Shard because it allows him to do a lot more damage and benefit from the spell lifesteal. The idea behind these items is to make Razor as tanky as possible and force the enemy to use everything they got to kill you. Even if they succeed, you will still do tons of damage, which should allow your team to win the fight.

Even though the heroes we’ve mentioned stand out, you can pick many other good options. For example, Riki is pretty strong right now, and people use him when they need to counter a specific hero on the enemy team. Heroes like Lycan and Shadow Fiend are also good as long as they have the correct setup.
