Some quick and easy tips to help you with ranking in CSGO.
CSGO allows people to play with friends and have fun. Some people take advantage of it, but others prefer to focus on matchmaking because it will enable them to prove they are good players. Sadly, ranking is not easy because there are loads of things people must consider.
There was a pretty big update in the last month that affected the ranking in CSGO. People actually lost their rank and had to win one game so it could show up. Surprisingly, many of them received a huge ranking boost because of the new algorithm. There have been many reports where people that were Gold Nova II unlocked LE after the update.
While we are not exactly sure what caused this, there are several important steps that everyone has to follow while playing. The general tips you are about to see have a positive effect in the long run, especially if you want to reach your desired ranking. So, here is what you should focus on.

Always warm up before you start playing
People who’ve been playing CS 1.6 know that warming up is extremely important. Although this may not have that big of an effect in other games, it can make a huge difference in FPS, such as CSGO.
The process of warming up is different for everyone. Some people relax by watching videos, but most players play at least a couple of Deathmatch maps. Unlike in previous Counter-Strike versions, doing this in CSGO is easy and takes a couple of minutes.
Once you’ve warmed up, you will notice that your reactions are way better. This is especially true for AWP players, which is one of the reasons why some of them spend a lot of time trying to get better.
Aside from the classic deathmatch options, some players use the popular aim_bots and other types of maps that allow you to practice your aim. Once you feel comfortable, queue up for a game, and you will see the results.
Use utilities
The next tip for ranking in CSGO applies mainly to people in the lower ranks, such as Silver, because the rest are aware of it. We had the chance to play in this bracket for a while, and it is safe to say that most people never use utilities.
Some players assume they do not need such things because they are better aimers. Sadly, CSGO isn’t just about aiming, which is why it is the most popular shooter in the world.
There are tons of guides on how to use utilities in CSGO, so check at least a couple of them before you start playing. There is no need to know everything, but it is a good idea to use the most common smokes because they will allow you to rank up much faster.
Try to improve your movement skills
Aside from using utilities, one of the most underrated things about CSGO is related to movement. For some reason, players assume that this is not important, which is why they only focus on their aim. While it is true that you need to have a good aim to be successful, you also have to improve your movement.
We’ve recently made a CSGO movement guide that covers a lot of things, so we won’t go into detail here. That said, you should try to improve because this will drastically affect your playstyle and success. Fortunately, there are loads of guides, videos, and maps where you can practice things like bunny hopping, peeking, and so on.
Speaking of movements, we also have to remind you to keep an eye on the minimap. In fact, there are special console commands that you should use, which will allow you to have an overview of everything.
Once you know how to move properly while playing, you should be able to “escape” from the lower ranks and start playing against people who know what they’re doing.
Fill in the position your team needs
This tip is really important, and it could potentially be your ticket out of a given rank. However, it will only work if you are at least Gold Nova because players in lower ranks don’t really care about positions that much.
Speaking of the devil, you must be aware of several important positions in CSGO. For example, every team needs a shot caller, but this is not really something you can do while playing with random people. In fact, it can have the opposite effect because some people do not like to listen to anyone.
One of the roles that you may have to try out is being an AWP player. Even though some teams have multiple “snipers”, there will be times when no one will want to use this gun. That’s when you have to step in and make a difference for your team.
Another thing to point out about positions is that you should work together with your team. In other words, rushing with your team is usually better than trying to secure solo kills.
Always think about your current position
Assuming you know all of the above mentioned things, you have to think of your in-game positioning and how it helps your team. Some players are only good if they are “guarding” a given area, but you have to be flexible if you want to rank easier.
There are many things to consider regarding your position, such as your gun, health, utilities, the number of teammates, and so on. Sadly, we can’t provide you with a successful formula because there are tons of possibilities. Always be aware of your surroundings and think carefully about how you can help your team.
Ranking up in CSGO is not an easy process, but it is not impossible. You don’t need to be the best player in the world to succeed, so if you are calm and follow the basic rules, you will eventually reach your desired rank. Once this happens, feel free to explore other opportunities, such as Faceit and other popular leagues where you can play against the best in the world.
