CSGO: G2 Esports Defeat Spirit to Win Champions Cup Finals

G2 Esports has come out victorious at the CS:GO Champions Cup Finals, defeating Spirit 2-0 in the Grand Final. The French-majority squad takes home the championship title and the lion’s share of the $300,000 prize pool.

The best-of-three Final kicked off on G2’s map pick of Train. Starting on the favored side, Spirit converted their pistol round win into a 3-0 lead. G2 found three of their own to tie up the scoreline. The teams traded rounds as four stunning AWP kills from Artem “iDISBALANCE” Egorov found Spirit their fifth. A 1v2 from Nemanja “nexa” Isaković allowed G2 to take control, the French-Serbian side stringing together four straight rounds to take the lead on their offensive half. Spirit found one more before G2 closed out the half up 9-6.

Spirit on the Come Back

Now on the offense, Spirit took the second pistol round. G2’s defense found a single round before Spirit took hold of the momentum, racing to a 13-10 lead. G2 answered back with a run of their own, putting up six straight rounds to win map one 16-13.

The series then went to Mirage, the map choice of Spirit. A pistol round win from G2 was quickly silenced as efforts from Viktor “somedieyoung” Orudjev allowed Spirit to race to a 5-1 lead. G2 then found four straight rounds, matching Spirit’s score. Spirit managed two more rounds to G2’s three, the CIS side ending their defensive half down 7-8.

G2 Close it Out

G2 took their defensive pistol round, though failed to convert as Spirit stole the following round. The majority-French side immediately found their footing as plays from Nemanja “huNter-” Kovač and François “AmeNEk” Delaunay allowed them three consecutive rounds. An ace from Nikolay “mir” Bityukov kept Spirit in the game, though G2 rode the momentum to a 16-11 victory on map two.

G2 takes home the $150,000 Champions Cup Finals grand prize. Their next scheduled appearance will be at the BLAST Premier in January of 2020.
