Chapter 4: Botanical Allies

In the Library, go up the stairs to the second floor. Go straight ahead and read The Golden Fish book on the right, and note “one bright morning”. Turn around and continue around to the other side of the second floor, read The Hare and the Tortoise in the first alcove, note “at Midday”, and pick up The Rising Sun in the next. 

Go back down the stairs and enter the main Library to the left. Go straight ahead to the desk and read The Fox and The Crow, note “One Evening”. Continue over to the stained glass windows and read Wonders of the Night Sky in the left alcove. Go back to the desk with the Fox and Crow book and go to the right to the plaques on the wall. Press the symbols of the books in the order they take place in the day; rising sun (3), fish (2), hare (4), crow (5), moon (1). Enter Grandma's Vault.

 Sapphire Gloom, Nightfall, Cradle Fern and Brook Chalice

Pick up the Nightfall seeds in the opposite corner from the door. Go to the desk in the other corner and read Grandma’s Research, note that the Nightfall only opens at sunset at a particular time of year, and add this clue to the Nightfall. Pick up the Study key in the bowl. Look at the sunset paintings on the walls, note the different colors, and add the clue to the Nightfall.

Exit the Library and unlock the Study door. On the desk in the Study, read the Fungi Book, note that some mushrooms get their nutrition from parasites. Add the clue to the Sapphire Gloom. Go to the small round table by the bookshelves and pick up the Sapphire Gloom seeds. Go to the larger table by the bookshelves and read the Tree Diseases book, note that Root Parasite causes purple circles. Add the last clue to the Sapphire Gloom.

 Look at the bird eggs by the bookshelves, note that the Crested Owl Egg has a blue teardrop pattern. Add this clue to the Cradle Fern.

Go back downstairs to the potting station in the Vestibule and plant and water a Sapphire Bloom seed. Pick up the pot and bring it to the tree in the Main Hall, put it on the saucer by the roots and watch the flower bloom.

Go back upstairs and go through the closed door next to the Library. Continue through the next closed door into the Corridor. Turn right and look at the Trapped Fairy Painting on the wall, note the pattern on the wings. Add the clue to the Nightfall. Continue down the Corridor, and on the table by the Attic door, read the Letter About Weeds, note that Brook Chalice was blooming in the river. Add this clue to the Brook Chalice.

Go back down the Corridor and look at the Fern Painting on the right wall, note the pattern on the eggs and add this clue to the Cradle Fern. Continue down the Corridor and enter the Bell Tower on the left next to the potting station. Pick up the Attic key on the table by the cork board. Read the River Trust and Government Notice on the cork board, note that rivers have been cleared of weeds and illegal metal has been dumped in rivers, yet River Frome was clear of pollution. Add both clues to the Brook Chalice.

Open and go through the closed door. Read the Letter About Melodies on the desk, note that some plants are sensitive to sound. Add this clue to the Cradle Fern. Turn around and look at the Rivers of Somerset poster on the wall, note the River Frome 25 degrees average temperature. Add this clue to the Brook Chalice.

Exit the Bell Tower and enter the closed door across the Corridor into the Master Bedroom. Read the Weed Removal Ad in the bin by the desk, note the removal of Brook Chalice and add this clue to said flower. Read the Petition on the desk, notice the decline of birds near rivers, and add this clue to Cradle Fern. Pick up the Cradle Fern seeds.

Keep going into the room and read the Trapped Fairy Story under the Tree painting, note that it’s about Nightfall, and add the clue to said flower. Cross the room and enter the closed Bathroom. Turn left and read the Bath Geyser Manual, notice the hot water setting, and add this last clue to the Brook Chalice. Pick up the Pipe Pieces around the room and add them to the pipes on the wall by the Geyser; one is below the Manual, two are next to the sink, one is on the toilet, and two are on the small table next to the toilet.

Go back to the Corridor and follow it down to the other end. Unlock the Attic and read the Trapped Moths pamphlet on the crate to the left, note that some flowers remain closed for a long time. Look at the Moths Poster on the wall, and notice that the Garden Tiger Moth has the same pattern as the moth in the Trapped Fairy painting. Pick up the Moth Calendar on the table below, note that the Garden Tiger Moth is spotted in September. Add all three clues to the Nightfall. 

Turn around and go up the stairs to the left. Go straight ahead to the window and pick up the Brook Chalice seeds. Turn around and go back to the table next to the stairs. Read the Sight of Plants, and note that some flowers can sense the time of day based on colored light. Add this last clue to the Nightfall. Pick up the Rusty Pig on the same table and bring it downstairs and into the Bathroom. Place it in the tub. Go back out to the potting station in the Corridor and plant and water the Brook Chalice seed. Bring the pot into the bathroom and place it on the saucer in the tub. Turn the temperature on the Geyser to 25 degrees and fill the bath with the tap on the left side. Watch the Brook Chalice bloom.

Go back to the potting station and plant and water a Cradle Fern. Bring the pot upstairs in the Bell Tower and place it on the saucer under the bells. Turn around and read the Bird Calls book, note the sound of the Crested Owl. Add this last clue to the Cradle Fern. Turn back around and ring the bells in that order (E-C-D-E-G-F) and watch the Cradle Fern bloom.

Go back downstairs to the potting station and plant and water a Nightfall seed. Bring the pot down the Corridor to the Attic and place it on the saucer in front of the Magic Lantern. Open the case to the left and add the colored Picture Slides from the September sunset to the Magic Lantern, Blue-Yellow-Orange-Red. Press the red button to project the slides and watch the Nightfall bloom.

Go back to the Gatehouse. Pick up the Formal Garden key from the bowl. Go back through the Manor, out to the Back Terrace, go down the stairs and straight ahead to the gate. Unlock the Formal Garden gate and start Chapter 5.
