Apex Legends is bringing the most changes to Apex’s core gameplay. Fans are excited to try out all the meta changes that will shake up the way they play the game. The most significant changes that are coming are the Legend changes and the new EVO system.
With all the changes announced, players were left wondering whether the ranked system would be shaken up. To everyone’s delight, the developers of the game are bringing new much, much-needed changes to ranked. We will be looking into how Respawn will make rank fun and, more importantly, good again.
All Ranked Changes Coming to Apex Legends Season 20
There are many new things that are going to change up the rank system and how ranked is played. We are going to break down all these additions.
Legend Perks and EVO system
The Legend Perks are the new and most significant change coming to Apex. These changes will affect not just the casual battle royale but also how Ranked is played. The Perks are awarded with the EVO system, as the higher a player’s EVO rank, the more perks they have. Learning this system is going to be crucial to excel in the game.
The EVO system itself will require a slight learning curve as well. This is because it is entirely different from the EVO system that has been in place for years now. Firstly, the EVO armor does not upgrade based on just damaging enemies but also knocks, assists, and finishers. Additionally, there are EVO caches spread throughout the map that can award an entire level of EVO.
On top of that, armor swapping has a new coat of paint on it. Players will no longer swap armor but swap armor shield cores. These cores will recharge the player’s current armor according to the level of shield core picked up. If a higher-tier shield core is picked up, the Legend will have the added levels of protection on top of their current armor for 30s.
Ranked Reloaded
Ranked is putting on an old coat of paint as it will bring back some systems that worked better in the past. Players will have to be at least level 20 to take part in ranked games.
The first change is bringing back Rank Points instead of the Ladder Points that are currently in the game. The Rank Points will function similarly to their former self. Points will be awarded to players for eliminations and assists.
Transparent Scoring
Scoring will become more transparent as it has been in past seasons. There will be a more significant focus on securing kills to gain points rather than placement in a match. A player’s hidden skill level will no longer have an effect on their matchmaking. Hidden skill level is how good a player plays in regular battle royale. This data is hidden and used to be used to dictate matchmaking in Ranked games instead of the Rank of the player. A bonus system is also present, which will grant players bonus points per elimination.
Bonus System
There are two main kinds of bonuses that are going to be added in Apex: the Top 5 streak bonus and the challenger bonus.
The top 5 streak bonus is awarded when a player can consistently stay in games up to the final five squads in a ranked game. The streak bonuses increase by 10 Ranked Points (RP) till a 5 match streak, at which point it caps out. The bonus points awarded per streak are:
- 2 match streak: +10 RP
- 3 match streak: +20 RP
- 4 match streak: +30 RP
- 5+ match streak: +40 RP
The challenger bonus is a 50% RP bonus awarded when a player eliminates another player who is in a higher rank than they are in.
Tier Structure
Respawn changed up the tier structure according to players’ feedback. The changes they listed are:
- Promotional Trials have been removed
- Provisional Matches have been removed
- Demotion and Demotion Protection will remain the same as Ignite’s Ranked
- Ranked Tier RP requirements will have some increases
The ranked overhaul seems to be a step in the right direction for Apex. The state of the ranked game mode has been very disappointing in the past seasons, so the new changes should bring some new enthusiasm toward it
