Zyphon Put out of Action as Maze Tries out as IGL

Zyphon’s run on the roster is cut short by middling performance

According to Sprout’s official Twitter, Rasmus “Zyphon” Nordfoss has been benched while Mikkel “Maze” Sparvath has been recruited from Let us cook.

The 21-year-old will also be acting as the in-game leader of the squad, replacing Ismail “refrezh” Ali who was assigned to the job in August 2022.

refrezh recently opened up about the challenges of a leadership, telling HLTV.org at IEM Katowice that the stress of responsibilities of the role was making it difficult for him to shine as a player.

The Dane also described how a stutter issue was causing him trouble with making calls on the fly on a recent TwitLonger, which prevented him from doing the job as well as he would want to.

Maze will have his work cut out for him as he has to rise to the occasion of being Sprout’s captain after only having risen to the level of an HLTV top 30 team. The Dane acquired some leadership skills while he was on Fnatic’s academy roster, and was recently promoted to the role of IGL on Let us cook, where he led the legendary Janusz “Snax” Pogorzelski's.

On the other hand, Zyphon who joined with refrezh back in August as the team, has been demoted to the team’s inactive roster after working with them for only five months.

The Dane produced average results during his time on the active roster, mustering up an unimpressive but decent 1.06 rating.

This big change comes about as Sprout prepares for the upcoming Regional Major Rankings for the Paris Major. The previous lineup surprised many when they managed to earn a direct invite into the Legends Stage of the IEM Rio Major. With the BLAST.tv Paris Major on the cards. They will undoubtedly be gunning for a similar position.

This fresh new Sprout will play their first competitive match in the first round of the closed qualifier of IEM Brazil, where they’re slated to lock horns with Swedish- Polish side 9INE on Wednesday.

Sprout’s roster as of now:

  • Victor “Staehr” Staehr
  • Adrian “XELLOW” Guță
  • Ismail “refrezh” Ali
  • Mikkel “Maze” Sparvath
  • Laurențiu “lauNX” Țârlea
  • Danny “BERRY” Krüger (coach)
  • Rasmus “Zyphon” Nordfoss (inactive)

The Old One
When he's not sighing at sub-standard teammates in Dota 2 and CS2, The Old One is writing about those two games (among other things). If you see his name around the site too many times for your liking, well, the guy just never stops writing. Yes, we've tried an intervention.
