VCT 2023 EMEA League- Week 1 Recap

As we head towards week 2 of the VCT 2023 EMEA League, here is a recap from the first week

All three regions are live with the inaugural franchise leagues. With week 1 being the super week for EMEA, it was non-stop action for five days straight. If you could not follow the first week, do not worry; we have got you covered. Keep up with us as we take you through each day and the overall tournament situation.

VCT 2023 EMEA League Table

Following week 1, FNATIC and Team Vitality lead the table with two wins and no losses. FNATIC are placed first due to round differential. Seven other teams, including NAVI, KOI, and Team Liquid, are on 1-1. Only BBL Esports and Giants Gaming remain winless after two rounds of the super week.

Recap

Here is a complete breakdown of how each day of week 1 played out.

Day 1

The fans could not ask for a better start to the VCT 2023 EMEA League, with two of the most exciting matchups of the event taking place on the very first day. The tournament favorites, NAVI and FNATIC, took the stage against KOI and Giants Gaming, respectively. While NAVI lost, FNATIC had the perfect start to the tournament with a 2-0 win despite playing with a sub.

Day 2

On day 2, we saw our first 3-map series of the tournament. Team Vitality defeated Team Liquid 2-1 in a back-and-forth series. In the other match, FUT Esports caused an upset, beating the Spanish powerhouse Team Heretics by a comfortable 2-0 margin.

Day 3

You gotta beat yourself up If you missed the NAVI vs Giants Gaming clash of day 3. How NAVI went from almost losing their second consecutive match to narrowly edging past the Giants was peak entertainment. The other game between Karmine Corp and BBL Esports was another banger. ScreaM and Co barely came out on top after two highly competitive maps.

Day 4

Not many people predicted Team Vitality to top the table after the first week. Doubting the ability of BONECOLD’s team is out of the question for good now with the win against KOI. Also, shrugging off the repeated poor performances, Team Liquid looked like their old form against FUT Esports. Saif “Sayf” Jibraeel put on an absolute masterclass ending the series with an astonishing 342 ACS.

Day 5

The highlight of the final day was definitely BBL Esports almost beating FNATIC. After blowing the LOCK//IN winners off the server in the first map, it seemed the Turkish team was all but certain to get their first victory of the league stage. However, Boaster led his team to make a remarkable comeback to take the series 2-1. It was a good day for the Spanish fans as well. Team Heretics finally seemed to play to their potential as they handed a crushing defeat to Karmine Corp.
