The move comes the same day that Respawn CEO Vince Zampella broke the news that the new battle royale game had reached 25 million unique players. Apex Legends has exploded in popularity since it’s release only a week ago. At the time of print, the game has over 200,000 viewers on Twitch, beating out stalwarts like League of Legends and Fortnite.
Earlier last week, esports team NRG also made the call on Twitter for players and content creators for Apex Legends. The move is a shrewd one; Apex Legends has been one of the most viewed games over the past week, and Fortnite, its direct competitor, has taken a nosedive in the viewer rankings.
Additionally, the Twitch Rivals Apex Legends tournament takes place starting today at 12 PM ET with the European section. Afterward, the North American bracket will start at 4 PM ET. The tournament has a $50,000 prize pool and features popular streamers like Shroud, TSM Myth, DrDisrespect, and others. It will be broadcast on the Twitch Rivals Channel on Twitch.
