Overwatch Taking Reign Event: Dates, Rewards, EVE Protocol Skins
|
| Author Games & Culture
Overwatch’s Reign of Talon story wraps up with Taking Reign, a five-week event that began on November 3, 2026 and ends on December 7. Everyone gets a 24-tier reward track with an Epic Sigma skin at the top. Paying 1,000 Overwatch Coins for the Premium Pass adds a Legendary Doomfist skin and a path to a new Vendetta weapon skin. Season 5, A Grim Doctrine, started on October 6, and Blizzard describes it as heading toward its end.
Updated November 5, 2026. Checked against Blizzard’s Season 5 midcycle post (corrected by Blizzard on November 3) and the Steam announcements of the same day.

How the Taking Reign pass works
You progress by finishing matches and challenges, and the track has 24 tiers. The Free Pass tops out with an Epic Sigma skin. The Premium Pass costs 1,000 Overwatch Coins, the game’s paid currency, and unlocks Resurgence Doomfist, a Legendary skin. Past that, you work toward Anima Fang, a Legendary weapon skin for Vendetta.
Blizzard corrected its midcycle post on November 3 to list Vendetta’s weapon skin as Legendary rather than Heroic. The same post says a purchased Premium pass can be finished at any point in Season 6. That suggests December 7 ends the event itself, not your chance to complete the pass. How progress carries over is not explained.

Excavation Initiative and Junkrat’s Loot Hunt
The Excavation Initiative returns for the full five weeks. Three digs in a week earn a Loot Box, and further digging can pay out bonus Loot Boxes, Epic Loot Boxes and one Legendary Loot Box.
Junkrat’s Loot Hunt is a short burst on November 20 to 23. Finish five games for a challenge reward and a Loot Box, then repeat up to nine times, with no daily reset. Blizzard also lists Double XP as live throughout the event, without saying whether that means the Loot Hunt or all of Taking Reign.
EVE Protocol skins and the Mythic Roadhog
| Hero | Crossover skin |
|---|---|
| Widowmaker | EVE |
| D.Va | Lily (Ultra skin) |
| Freja | Raven |
| Vendetta | Tachy |
| Soldier: 76 | Adam |
The crossover runs November 3 to 17, so it is the first thing to leave the shop. D.Va’s mech, Tokki, is based on the final boss of Providence, according to the post. The other four skins come without prices or rarities.
Mythic skins are Overwatch’s upgradeable top tier. Necrotic Knight Roadhog has four levels. The first is the base Mythic form with custom effects. Next come helmet options (Skull, Knight and a Plague Doctor-inspired one), then extra color palettes, and a final stage with ethereal skulls, claws, spectral flames and smoke. Hook and projectile effects and voice lines are custom too. The post leaves the price out.
World Finals, Drives and the Black Friday Vault Sale
The OWCS World Finals run December 2 to 6 in Guangzhou with twelve teams.
Drives follow on December 3 to 7. Competitive Drives pay up to 3,000 Competitive Points and a Signature, while Quick Play Drives pay up to 3,000 Legacy Weapon Points. Eligible previous Signatures become equippable at the fourth checkpoint this season. The Cheer Rally covers the same days, and linking a Twitch or YouTube account earns extra rewards.
The Black Friday Vault Sale lasts the whole event. Bundles named in the post are the Peak Mega Bundle, Hero Spotlight Bundles for Mercy, Soldier: 76, Ramattra and D.Va, the 2026 Mega Unvault Bundle, Essentials Bundle 2 (Tank, Support and Damage) and the StarCraft Mega Bundle.
Still unpublished
The post gives no Season 5 end date, no Season 6 date, no list of the 24 tier rewards and no prices for the Vault bundles.
Season 5 itself is covered in our Overwatch Season 5 guide (Doctrine and Sombra’s move to Support). The Dokiwatch 2.0 guide lists that event’s November 9 cosmetic deadline. The hero roster page tracks every character.
