Phasmophobia Resonance Update: Unity 6, Sound Sensor and Release Window

Phasmophobia’s next big update is called Resonance, and it lands in late November 2026. Kinetic Games announced it in Development Preview #22 on November 2, 2026. The package pairs the long-delayed Unity 6 engine move with a content update. Unity 6 is meant to cut crashes and improve lighting. The content half changes how you read sounds and talk to ghosts.

Resonance at a glance
| Feature | What Kinetic says in the preview |
|---|---|
| Release window | Late November 2026. The post calls it “next month” and gives no day or hour. |
| Unity 6 | Engine upgrade aimed at stability and performance across CPU, GPU, VRAM and RAM, with memory leaks and the more common crashes addressed. |
| Lighting | Improved lighting across the game, shown with a video and images in the post. |
| Sound Sensor map | Icons show the type of sound. A looping sound stays on the map for a while, a single sound pings once and disappears. Only sounds on the same floor are identified. Kinetic files this under a “Dowsing Rods” heading but describes the Sound Sensor map, and gives no other Dowsing Rods details. |
| Ghost speed on the map | The Sound Sensor map can also be used to judge a ghost type from its speed of movement, which Kinetic says will help during a hunt. |
| Voice Recognition | New commands let you tell the ghost to interact with nearby objects such as doors and switches, throw objects or give a sign of its presence. Players on Text mode get the same options, and VR players reach them through the Sanity watch. |
| Journal | A new page lists the usable voice phrases. |
| Random map pool | Pick as many maps as you want to build your own random pool. New buttons select all small, medium or large maps, and a dice icon replaces the Random Map polaroid. |
| Settings | Graphical presets, an extreme shadow quality setting, overall quality presets and Eye Adaptation for VR. |
| Color-blindness options | Eight modes: Protanopia, Protanomaly, Deuteranopia, Deuteranomaly, Tritanopia, Tritanomaly, Achromatopsia and Achromatomaly. |
| Warnings | A warning message for Code of Conduct violations instead of an immediate ban, unless the behavior is severe enough for one. Players are also told when a report they filed led to action. |
| Xbox Play Anywhere | Owners of the Xbox version can play on any device that supports Xbox play, including PC, laptops, ROG Ally and Xbox Series X/S. |
Why Unity 6 and the content update ship together
Over the summer, Kinetic worked on several updates and found that shipping them at different times “was looking unreasonable” for the team and for players. Resonance bundles them. Unity 6 is the headline piece. It targets bugs, common crashes, memory leaks and lighting, and it sets up the road to Phasmophobia 1.0, which Kinetic aims for in late 2027. Kinetic says the real performance gain will only show once players run the build and file reports through the Help Centre.
Sound Sensor and voice changes in a lobby
The Sound Sensor’s map gets easier to read. A looping sound stays on the map, while a one-off sound pings once and disappears. Sounds from other floors are filtered out. The speed of a moving marker can hint at the ghost type during a hunt. Voice Recognition picks up a second job. You can ask the ghost to open a door, flip a switch or throw something, and a new Journal page lists the phrases that work.
What slips past Resonance
Three things Kinetic discussed come after Resonance.
| Item | Timing per Kinetic | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Player Character Visual Update | No date given | Over 30 new cosmetics with color and texture variants, a reworked Customization Shop UI and updated character models. Planned for Resonance, then pulled so the update stays stable. |
| 42 Edgefield Road rework | Later in 2026 | Next map in line for a rework. The post shows a single teaser screenshot and no details. |
| Phasmophobia 1.0 | Late 2027 | Kinetic says Resonance is the starting point for the work leading to 1.0. |
Our ghost types and evidence table was built on October 29, 2026. The small maps cursed objects guide covers 42 Edgefield Road. The medium and large maps guide covers the other sizes. The Crimson Eye guide covers the event that ran from October 8 to November 1.
What Kinetic has yet to confirm
The exact Resonance day and hour, the voice phrase list, the full set of graphical presets and a date for the cosmetics update are still open. Patch notes follow on release day.
