Doctrine: what the new Support does

Doctrine is the newest Support. Blizzard describes his Eternal Scepter as a weapon that heals allies and damages enemies from mid to long range, and his mechanical bat-like drones as a source of healing and extra attack speed for the team. His signature Infuse empowers each of his abilities, and his ultimate gives allies Overhealth while limiting the maximum health of enemies. In the story he was locked in the Grímsvötn prison until Doomfist freed him.

Blizzard has not published a trial period or a price for Doctrine in the posts we read, so we do not list one. For his place among the other heroes, see the full Overwatch hero roster and abilities guide.

Sombra as a Support and Roadhog’s rework

If you have only ever played Sombra as a flanker, her kit is different now. Hotfix heals an ally after a short cast and can be used while she is invisible without breaking stealth. Cyberspace heals allies in an area and applies the new Weaken status to enemies, which lowers their damage and their healing effectiveness.

Roadhog keeps his role but changes how he fights. The Scrap Gun now fires two bursts per volley, each with a stronger center projectile. The new Trash Compactor swallows incoming enemy projectiles and fires an explosive shot back, with damage that scales with what it absorbed.

Watchpoint: Grímsvötn

Grímsvötn is an Escort map built around the Icelandic prison that once held Doctrine and Doomfist. Blizzard calls it the first new Escort map since Overwatch 2 launched, and the Steam post presents it as the start of the final chapter of the Reign of Talon story. Talon now controls the facility.

What is not confirmed

Blizzard has not stated when Season 5 ends in the posts we read. A December 8 start for Season 6 has circulated, but it comes from press reports and the in-game timer, not from an announcement, so treat it as unconfirmed. Real-money prices for the passes and the Starter Pack are also missing, since the announcement only lists Coin amounts. The two official posts also differ on Drives: Blizzard News places Team Drives in Competitive, while the Steam post mentions Drives coming to Quick Play.

We did not play-test any of these changes. Hero numbers, cooldowns and balance values are not covered because the announcements do not list them.
