Iron through Immortal each have three tiers, numbered 1 to 3. Radiant sits above Immortal 3 and has no tiers.

| 2 | Bronze | Bronze 1, 2, 3 | 100 RR per tier |
| 3 | Silver | Silver 1, 2, 3 | 100 RR per tier |
| 4 | Gold | Gold 1, 2, 3 | 100 RR per tier |
| 5 | Platinum | Platinum 1, 2, 3 | 100 RR per tier |
| 6 | Diamond | Diamond 1, 2, 3 | 100 RR per tier |
| 7 | Ascendant | Ascendant 1, 2, 3 | 100 RR per tier |
| 8 | Immortal | Immortal 1, 2, 3 | Immortal 1 after 100 RR in Ascendant 3, then regional RR cutoffs |
| 9 | Radiant | No tiers | Regional RR cutoff and a top-500 spot in your region |
How RR works from Iron to Ascendant
RR (Rank Rating) is the points total behind your rank. These are the numbers Riot lists for Iron through Ascendant.
| Rule | Riot’s figure |
|---|---|
| RR after your placements | You start with 50 RR in your rank |
| RR needed to promote | 100 RR |
| RR after a promotion | At least 10 RR as a buffer |
| When you are demoted | Only after you reach 0 RR and lose again |
| RR after a demotion | At least 70 RR in the lower tier |
| Rank shields | Entering Tier 1 of a rank, by promotion or demotion, gives you 2 shields |
| What a shield does | Stops a loss at 0 RR from dropping you out of the rank; it does not protect moves between tiers such as Silver 2 to Silver 1 |
| Dodges and remakes | They do not use a shield |
Going AFK or dodging queue for a prolonged period also costs RR, according to Riot. Riot’s page on this range does not mention rank decay.
Immortal and Radiant RR cutoffs by region
From Immortal 2 up, the RR you need depends on your region. Radiant has a second condition: you must also be in the top 500 of your region’s leaderboard. Both have to be true.
| Region | Immortal 2 | Immortal 3 | Radiant (plus top 500) |
|---|---|---|---|
| LATAM and KR | 90 RR | 150 RR | 200 RR |
| BR | 100 RR | 230 RR | 340 RR |
| NA | 90 RR | 200 RR | 450 RR |
| APC | 80 RR | 200 RR | 400 RR |
| EU | 100 RR | 200 RR | 500 RR |
Immortal and Radiant RR has no upper cap and depends on match results alone, so performance bonuses do not apply. You drop out of Immortal 2 or 3 if you fall below your region’s cutoff. A Radiant player is demoted by falling below the Radiant cutoff or by losing more RR than the lowest-RR Radiant player. To keep a leaderboard spot, play at least one competitive game every 7 days.
Placements and what resets each Act
Each Episode has six Acts. You play five placement matches at the start of Act 1 and Act 4, and one placement match in the other Acts. You need to be level 20 to play competitive. Your rank does not drop automatically at the start of an Act, though a poor placement can lower it.
Immortal and Radiant players get different treatment at the start of Acts 2 and 3: leaderboard position stays the same, RR drops by 90%, and every Radiant player returns to Immortal until they qualify again.
One detail Riot’s own pages do not agree on is the highest rank a placement can give. Two pages say Ascendant 1 and the Iron through Ascendant page says Ascendant 3, so we do not state a cap here.
Rank versus Act Rank
Your rank is where you sit on the ladder now. Your Act Rank is a badge built from your highest ranked win in the Act, which Riot calls your proven skill. You need at least 9 competitive wins in an Act to earn it, and it is awarded only when the Act ends. The badge border upgrades at 9, 25, 50, 75 and 100 wins. At Mid-Season and at the end of the Season you also get a gun buddy that matches your highest Act Rank.
What we left out
Riot does not publish rank distribution percentages on these pages. Third-party trackers do publish estimates, and the figures differ from one Act to the next, so we left them out. If you want tips for the climb itself, read our guides on ranking up without grinding and escaping each rank.
