The Playoffs began in Singapore today, with two action packed series in our Upper Bracket.
The Group Stage of the ONE Esports Dota 2 World Pro Invitational is finally over. We had two days of non-stop action between the best teams in the world. If you missed any of the action, be sure to check out our recaps from the previous days.
It was an exciting first day of the Playoffs, thanks to two surprises that we saw in both of our series. Let’s take a look and see what went down.
Alliance vs Gambit Esports
We fall short in Game 2 as well, GG's @GambitEsports!
We will look to make amends in our next game on Saturday, see you in the arena!💚#ALLfam #ONEDota2 pic.twitter.com/uX09L0tfs7

The first series of the day looked as if it would be easy for Alliance, especially after their performance in the groups. However, the reality turned out to be completely different.
The CIS powerhouse looked very motivated and after a stellar performance, they were able to take the series with a quick 2–0.
It seems like Danil “gpk” Skutin and his team finally found a way to deal with Alliance's Viper pick, putting Naga siren in the mid lane. Despite the heavy start, Gambit’s players managed to get tons of farm as Alliance couldn’t do anything about it. Slowly and steadily, the CIS team suffocated their enemies to take the lead in the series.
With just one game away from the Lower Bracket, Alliance tried desperately to bounce back. Even though they had a very good start in game two, Gambit was just the better team. They completely dominated the map which didn’t allow Nikolay “Nikobaby” Nikolovs’ Anti-mage to utilize his farming capabilities.
After delivering their knock-out punch, Gambit Esports secured themselves a top-three finish and a match against Evil Geniuses in the Upper Bracket Finals.
Evil Geniuses vs Team Secret
We take the series in a convincing fashion, closing out @teamsecret 2-0!
Our next match will take place tomorrow evening, when we take on Gambit in the Upper Bracket Final of the @ONEesportsgg Dota Pro Invitational Singapore.#LIVEEVIL #ONEDota2 pic.twitter.com/mEDBcyAsX8

Even though the first series was interesting, this was definitely the fight that everyone expected. Those two teams have met each other numerous times during the last DPC. Although EG played very well, Secret nearly always managed to snatch the victory. However, the luck was not on their side today as they got overrun by the TI 5 champions.
The first game between these Dota 2 forces was pretty much one-sided. Despite the slow start, Evil Geniuses completely controlled the game since the very start. Artour “Arteezy” Babaev and his Bloodseeker was the star of the match yet again after an amazing performance.
There was a glimmer of hope for the European titans, but they just couldn’t take advantage of it. As a result, game one went in favor of Evil Geniuses.
It seems like the win gave EG a huge confidence boost because they absolutely demolished their enemies in game two. They started to pressure Secret from the very beginning which gave the needed results.
Without any hope of recovery, Team Secret had no other option but to call GG. This loss means that they will have to fight for their survival in the Lower Bracket. Sadly, they will be facing either Vici Gaming or TNC, both of which are among the best teams in the world right now.
The ONE Esports Dota 2 World Pro Invitational continues tomorrow with the first of our Lower Bracket matches. You can tune in and catch all the action live on Twitch.
