The move came shortly after Cloud9’s unceremonious exit from the IEM Katowice Major, going 2-3 in the Legends Stage and placing 10th-11th.
A heart condition has sidelined Golden since early November. In his place, Cloud9 brought in Jordan “Zellsis” Montemurro as a stand-in late December to stand in for the IGL. For his part, Zellsis performed well during the IEM Katowice Major, giving fans some highlight plays to remember, despite their lack of success. Cloud9 still has Zellsis “on trial” for the team. Additionally, coach Soham “valens” Chowdhury is set to move to an analyst role within Cloud9 in the near future.
Flusha decides to take time off
In an event that might have influenced flusha’s decision to step away from the game “for the time being,” Rönnquist’s mother passed away unexpectedly during the event. Cloud9 had this to say about the veteran’s decision to take some time off:
“My time with Cloud9 has come to an end, it has been a great experience all around. Even though it had its challenges, this time of my life is something I will always value highly. I want to give thanks to all of the Cloud9 management, but most of all to Tim, Will, Soham and Jonathan. I hope the team finds all the success I know that they are able to achieve, and I want to thank the team for being some of the best teammates I’ve ever had!”
In a twitlonger, Flusha also revealed that he has been feeling “uninspired and exhausted” while playing Counterstrike for some time.
Golden’s return should bring some much-needed stability to a North American team that has been plagued by mixed results since their Major win a year ago. With Golden’s return, Cloud9’s current roster is as follows:
Timothy “Autimatic” Ta
Will “Rush” Wierzba
Fabien “kioShiMa” Fiey
Jordan “Zellsis” Montemurro (trial)
Maikil “Golden” Selim
