With a thoroughly overhauled roster, GenG entered the event with modest expectations. Despite this, the Korean team defied the odds, progressing to the finals by defeating formidable opponents such as DRX, ZETA Division, and Team Secret. Now, with this win, GenG has become the first APAC team other than DRX and PRX to claim the crown of Pacific Champions.
VCT 2024 Pacific Kickoff: Grand Final
GenG has not had the most success against Paper Rex in the past. As for the map picks, GenG started by banning Sunset, where they struggled the most against PRX in the earlier matchup, while PRX chose to ban Icebox.

Paper Rex vs GenG Map 1: Ascent
How the match started provided a glimpse into how the series would be played out. GenG put on a masterclass on Ascent as they ended the first map with a score of 13-5. Other than the pistol round on Defense, they were virtually flawless throughout.

Paper Rex vs GenG Map 2: Split
The reigning Pacific Champions did not take long to hit back, making a strong comeback on their chosen map of Split. f0rsaken and Co secured a decisive 13-4 win, sending a statement that they were not going out without a fight. Paper Rex’s domination on this map was not thanks to any individual performance, which, more often than not, is the case for them. Instead, it was a collective effort. However, mindfreak on Omen was extremely clutch, with several match-winning multi-kills and clutches.
Paper Rex vs GenG Map 3: Lotus
Lotus was the only map where we actually got to witness a back-and-forth battle between the two Asian giants. GenG got a flying start after winning both the pistol and the bonus round. However, despite the early lead, they ended the half on the back foot with a 7-5 score in favor of PRX.

In the next half, we saw GenG utilizing their double controller composition to the fullest to showcase a masterful offensive display as they clinched the game with a score of 13-11. Both Controller players of GenG were impeccable on this map. As for PRX, Monyet struggled on Raze and remained largely ineffective throughout the map.
Paper Rex vs GenG Map 4: Bind
Historically, Paper Rex has maintained an impressive track record on Bind, with the map's design and layout aligning perfectly with their aggressive playstyle. Throughout both halves, Lakia and his team refused to give Paper Rex room to adapt to their fast-paced gameplay. Ultimately, with a score of 13-4, GenG bagged their first-ever VCT title.
