Fortnite OG – New Season Brings Back the Best of Chapter 1

Fortnite OG is here! A brand-new flashback season taking us right back to Chapter 1, what’s changed and what do you need to know?

Fortnite’s latest season has just dropped. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve likely heard about the big headline feature of the new season. Named Fortnite OG, it’s a flashback season. Instead of getting Chapter 4 Season 5 we’ve got the original content all returning to the game. Players can enjoy the OG map, the original loot pool, tons of Chapter 1 content to remind everyone why they fell in love with the Battle Royale in the first place.

What’s changed with Fortnite OG? Players can likely remember a good few aspect of the earliest parts of Fortnite’s history. We all have POIs we remember and guns we’d love to play again. However, there’s a lot in the season which you might not remember so well. There’s less meds, less mechanics, and high-level loot is in much shorter supply. There has been of aspects you might not remember quite so well about OG Fortnite.

Getting to grips with all the new or returning content is going to be important to continue winning games of Fortnite. While Fortnite OG is bringing back the original map, it’s also keeping some modernization changes we’ve had through the years. This is how the new/old Chapter works and what to expect in the game.

Fortnite OG – Everything That’s New and Changed

The Map – Return to Chapter 1 for New Fortnite Season

Fortnite OG - New Fortnite Season

Fortnite’s very first map is back. Or at least a form of its very first map. We’re beginning the Fortnite OG season in Chapter 1 Season 5. You’ll see all of the POIs and landmarks that you remember from that season. To start, that means POIs like Tilted, Greasy, and Pleasant are all here. The game is starting in Season 5 for the new Fortnite season then moving on from there. You’ll spot some tiny changes like more ziplines, but it’s largely the exact same.

Returning Weapons

Along with the OG Fortnite map, we’re getting the original weapons back. There’s the original Assault Rifle, Pump Shotgun, even the beloved Hunting Rifle are back! Epic has tried to recreate how these weapons originally handled. Although, the reception has been a bit more mixed.

The Pump specifically has been called out as not quite feeling the same. Although, the guns do feel pretty close to how they originally handled.

Traps and Items Back for OG Fortnite

Fortnite OG - New Fortnite Season

Weapons have gone back to the start, but so have toher items. Notably we finally have the return of traps! While present in death runs or Fortnite XP maps, traps haven’t been seen in Battle Royale in a very long time. Getting these back will let you have a bit more fun with building.

An ambitious payer might even be able to recreate the trap tower! There’s also the grappler and the boogie bomb back for Fortnite OG.

Mobility

We’re going to be getting changes to the items and mobility as we move through the OG seasons. However, at launch there is only one real vehicle kicking around. There’s the All-Terrain Karts which you can use. More will be coming over time, but for now we’re pretty locked down.

If you didn’t play much of these early seasons, this is something to keep in ind. The pace of an average Fortnite game used to be a lot slower. Players will have to get a bit more used to this style of combat again for the New Fortnite season.

Rocket Riding Back in OG Fortnite

One big meme of Fortnite Chapter 1 was riding a rocket. Hoping on the back of a rocket is a fun way to get around. This mechanic has made a comeback! If you can master lining things up to jump on the rockets in mid-air, you can rocket ride in Fortnite OG

Fortnite OG Battle Pass and Item Shops

Fortnite OG - New Fortnite Season

Along with a new mini season, we’re getting a special mini-Battle Pass for the new Fortnite season. This is going to be an opportunity to pick up some Chapter 1 skins. Since this season won’t be running as long, we’re only getting a mini pass this time. There are only 100 levels, so you should still be able to finish the pass off with some time to spare.

The Fortnite items shop has recently had a redesign, so how are we getting nostalgia here too? Epic is bringing back a ton of the OG Fortnite skins and items. These will be in a new section in the item store. They’ll rotate daily. If there’s older and rarer Fortnite skins you’ve always wanted to pick up, this might be your chance.

What’s Staying the same?

Those are the major changes we’ve seen for Fortnite OG. The game is basically back to Chapter 1. However, it’s important to note that not everything is changing. The game will actually have a few aspects staying the same. Some more modern innovations on gameplay will be sticking around. These are:

  • Mantling
  • Sprinting
  • Sliding
  • Reboot Vans
  • On Screen Audio Visualizers
  • Victory Crowns

Reboot Vans were available later in Chapter 1, so they’re sticking around. There’s also the new movement mechanics which are staying. So are the on-screen audio indicators. That’s perfect if you want to run the best Fortnite settings even if the game’s flashing back to Chapter 1 with the new Fortnite season.
