Fortnite: Epic Games Disables Crucial Mythic Item Ahead Of FNCS Week Two

Epic Games announced the disabling of a vital Mythic ability for this week's FNCS competition.

Fortnite Chapter 2 – Season 4 introduced a new experience for competitive players. Its Marvel Comics-themed location produced some new toys to play with in the form of Mythic superhero abilities. To date, Arena Mode and tournaments have only featured Doctor Doom's abilities, Silver Surfer's Board and Groot's Bramble Shield until just recently. Epic removed Silver Surfer's Board and Groot's Bramble Shield, leaving only Doom's Mystical Bomb and Arcane Gauntlets remaining.

Top trios that land at Doom's Domain have produced astounding amounts of success. NRG benjyfishy, ATL LeTsHe and 100T MrSavage regularly land at Doom's Domain and are among the most dominant trios in the European region. That same sentiment applies to NRG Zayt, TSM Saf and Liquid Stretch for NA East – who recently bullied all opposing teams except for one out of Doom's Domain. The power of Doctor Doom's Mythic abilities is unmistakable. However, a recent decision from Epic Games may factor heavily into how Week Two of this season's Fortnite Champion Series plays out.

Doom's Mystical Bomb Disabled

Due to an unknown issue, Epic Games disabled Doctor Doom's Mystical Bomb in all competitive playlists.

“Due to an issue, Dr. Doom's Mystical Bomb has been disabled in competitive playlists. It will be disabled for the FNCS this week, including the Middle East Tournament later today. We will update you when the power is re-enabled.”

We have investigated social media channels and Fortnite's Trello board, but there is no indication as to why Epic disabled the Mystical Bomb. It seems to function as intended based on multiple scrims and tournaments. Perhaps there is a broken component that players can exploit in competitive playlists. Whatever the case may be, teams and competitors who land at Doom's Domain will only have access to Doom's Arcane Gauntlets until further notice.

What Does This Mean for Tournament Ahead?

Doom's Domain is a bit less appealing as a result of Epic disabling the Mystical Bomb. Although it is still a Mythic POI (point of interest), the Mythical Bomb granted end game control to players lucky enough to possess it. It explodes built structures, engulfs them in flames and can swing momentum in mere seconds. Trios will undoubtedly continue landing at Doom's Domain simply because of the vault, 36 potential regular chests, Henchman boxes and the number of materials available to players. If Zayt or Benjy's trio remains uncontested at Doom's Domain, they will still hold a massive advantage over their respective opponents.

Players looking to w-key might see more appeal in Stark Industries. This is a given considering the near guarantee of pulling Legendary or Epic Pump Shotguns. Now, these are infinitely more valuable than Doom's Arcane Gauntlets. It will be interesting to see if any trio's strategies change with this monumental move out of Epic Games to disable the Mystical Bomb.
