Epic Games delays Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 3 in support of racial equality.
Fortnite fans are eagerly waiting for the launch of Chapter 2 Season 3. Unfortunately, they will have to wait even longer with yet another delay for the newest season. Epic Games’ Fortnite Team announced earlier today that Chapter 2 Season 3 will now release on Wednesday, June 17. The delay this time around has an explanation, however, considering recent racial matters and the movement against prejudice.
Stance Against Racial Injustice

The team behind Fortnite came to the ultimate decision to further delay Chapter 2 Season 3 due to the recent societal focus on prejudice and racism.
“Recent events are a heavy reminder of ongoing injustices in society, from the denial of basic human rights to the impact of racism, both overt and subtle against people of color. We're acutely aware of the pain our friends, families, team members, players, and communities are experiencing.”
Their response echoes the sentiments felt by our own family at ESTNN and many others across the world. The topic of racism became a focal point around the globe due to the unjust death of George Floyd in Minnesota on May 25.
Floyd, an innocent bystander, was suffocated by a member of the Minnesota Police Department while three others stood by idly. The social media stratosphere reacted, as did protesters who took the streets in states across the United States and even the world.
Fortnite and Epic Games stand in support of those who are seeking justice. Their statement continued,
“The team is eager to move Fortnite forward, but we need to balance the Season 3 launch with time for the team to focus on themselves, their families, and their communities.”
Many content creators and organizations have followed this same beat. Sony notably canceled its PlayStation 5 event in respect of the Black Lives Matter movement. Epic Games is another company in a long list that supports the same cause.
New Release Date
The Fortnite Team spoke explicitly about the new release date in their blog post.
“The live event The Device will be delayed to Monday, June 15, and the Season 3 launch delayed to Wednesday, June 17. We know this delay comes on the heels of another one, and we appreciate your patience and understanding during these difficult times.”
Despite the delays, players and fans are excited to check out the new season. No one should fault Epic Games for making this decision. The world has been in turmoil as of late. There are much more pressing matters at hand. Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 3 will simply have to wait.
