Evil Geniuses Captain Battles Illness In Bali

Evil Geniuses captain Farith “Matthew” Puente has been struggling with a health problem amidst his team’s troublesome start at Bali Major

The Bali Major 2023 has been far from smooth sailing for Farith “Matthew” Puente, the esteemed support and captain of Evil Geniuses' South American Dota 2 lineup. In a cruel twist of fate, Puente has been plagued by a persistent stomach ache that has lasted for several days, compromising his physical well-being and further adding to the team's already turbulent start in the tournament.

The news of the 24-year-old’s illness, however, did not come from the Evil Geniuses camp. Gaimin Gladiators creative manager Paulina Paz revealed on Twitter that the Evil Geniuses captain has been dealing with a stomach bug and it has likely impacted the team’s performance in the competition.

She wrote:

“Matthew has been sick with a stomachache for three days, possibly unable to play yesterday. He visited the doctor and is receiving treatment. Despite the unlikelihood of people knowing these details, I dislike the SA community's harsh judgments.”

The EG captain's health issues almost caused his absence from the opening day of Bali Major 2023, contributing to the team's subpar performance in the initial stages of the Dota 2 Major. Understandably, this left fans disappointed, prompting a response from the Gaimin Gladiators' manager.

“It's astonishing how the contenders are more understanding and supportive towards them compared to their supposed fans,” she pointed out.

Evil Geniuses find themselves at the bottom of Group B standings in the tournament, having suffered defeats in three out of the four series they have played so far. Their only respite came in the form of a 1-1 draw against PSG.LGD.
