As you are probably aware, the new auto battles genre is slowly taking over the world. It all began from a small Custom game in Dota 2, but now, both Valve and Riot Games have their standalone version of Auto Chess. Let’s not forget Drodo studios, the main creators of this new genre, who also have their own version.
Today, we will focus on Dota Underlords, and more specifically – how to properly earn and manage your gold.
Earning Gold
In Dota Underlords, Gold is basically the main resource. Gold can be considered the key to success, That’s why it is essential to learn how to manage Gold properly. It can be used for buying heroes and refreshing them, which is the core of Dota Underlords. Let’s take a look at some strategies which you can use to earn more Gold.
Streaks
With each round in Dota Underlords, you get five Gold. However, there are various bonuses that can add to those five Gold. Ultimately, you get bonus Gold both for winning and losing streaks. To distinguish them from one another, look for the different flame color.
As you can see in the video, Kripp has different flame colors next to his heroes. The different colors provide different Gold bonuses:
- Blue – 1 Gold
- Purple – 2 Gold
- Gold – 3 Gold
The different flames require different winning streaks The Blue flame starts from around 3 to 4, the Purple from 5 to 6 and the Gold from 7+.
In Dota Underlords, you can also earn Gold when you are on a losing streak. This was directly “snatched” from Auto Chess as it proved to be an excellent mechanic.
- Small Grey – 1 Gold
- Medium Grey – 2 Gold
- Large Grey – 3 Gold
The streak count is similar to the winning ones, but you have to lose instead.
As you can see, it's a way better idea to be on a streak rather than continually going back and forth. That’s why you will often see many people who lose on purpose until they get the needed Gold. What’s more, you have plenty of life points to play around, so can sacrifice some of them for the greater good.
Selling Heroes & Acquiring Interest
Apart from the winning/losing streaks, another great method to get Gold are the ones mentioned above.
You will often find yourself wondering why you purchased a certain hero when they don't fit into your lineup. Luckily, you will have the chance to sell them and get a refund. It is important to know that the refund depends on the hero’s level, so the higher it is – the more Gold you get. However, most of the time you are going to be selling lower-level heroes, so the amount of Gold will not be large.
Another fascinating mechanic in Underlords is the Interest. At the end of each round, all players receive 10% of their current Gold. This is an easy way to accumulate some Gold but remember that there is a 5 Gold cap. Not the best market economy but it is what it is.
In general, you should always try to have around 50 or more Gold, especially if you are going into a fight. In order to do that, try saving up as much as possible during the early rounds. It is just not worth spending it all on random heroes.
Some General Tips
- Always be aware of your current losing streak because you can get easily distracted.
- Start building your lineup early on. By doing this, you will be able to get Gold during the mid-game, which you can use later on. Remember that the Late Game is where things matter the most, so you have to be prepared.
- As the game goes on, try spending more Gold on re-rolls to get the needed heroes to upgrade your team.
- Do not put too much focus on the player level. Sure, it is good to have a higher level but only consider it if you are doing well on the board.
Conclusion
There is a very high chance for Dota Underlords and the other auto battlers to become an esport soon. In the meantime, TI 9 is just around the corner, and the last qualifications for it are currently being played. Expect more information about them soon.
