Dota 2: The Top 3 Offlaners of 2019

This last year was one of the best years for every Dota 2 fan out there. We got to see tons of amazing tournaments, dramas, and many other cool moments. However, now that we are in 2020, it’s time to focus on the upcoming tournaments.

The first big challenge ahead of the teams in the second roll of DPC tournaments. WePlay!’s Bukovel Minor and the Leipzig Major will take place this January. In fact, the Minor begins in just one week from now.

Having said that, before we can fully commit to the 2020 Dota 2 scene, it’s time to take one final step back and see who were the best offlaners for 2019. If you missed any of our previous rankings, be sure to check them out here.

Sébastien “Ceb” Debs

No surprises here, the first player on our list is the one and only Ceb. Even though he was a very controversial person in 2019, no one can deny his incredible skills. In fact, Ceb is by far the strongest French Dota 2 player that has ever played the game. He and his incredible decision making were one of the driving forces in OG’s second TI victory.

However, apart from his skills, Ceb was also put under the spotlight for his speech. He was involved in a racism scandal during a pub game where he insulted a couple of Russian players. As a result of his words, there was a serious community backlash. Although some people wanted him to be removed from OG, the organization decided to simply fine him instead.

Ludwig “zai” Wåhlberg

The second player on our list is perhaps the most famous offlaner in the world right now. Zai has been a part of many strong Dota 2 teams throughout the years. Despite being young, he has already proven himself as one of the best players in his field. As you know, the offlane is often regarded as the hardest Dota 2 position because you have to survive against either two or more heroes at once.

Similar to Ceb, Zai played a very key role for Team Secret in 2019. Together with his team-mates, the Swedish prodigy won a couple of DPC tournaments, which resulted in getting the first place in the 2019-2020 DPC. What’s more, even though Team Secret didn’t win TI, they still performed to a high level. As a result, the European powerhouse achieved their best placing at this tournament yet.

Damien “kpii” Chok

Last, but definitely not least, we have kpii, a player that has been in the Dota 2 scene for a long time. 2019 was a very interesting year for him because he played for two big teams, Mineski and TNC. Despite the fact that Mineski ended up going to TI, their results there weren’t that good. As a result, after spending over one year there, the Australian player made the move to TNC.

Judging by their results, it seems like this move was for the better. So far, TNC won the first Major of the new DPC and managed to qualify for the second one. Nevertheless, their most recent performance at the Singapore LAN tournaments was dreadful. It will be interesting to see what form they're in for 2020.

Be sure to watch the Bukovel Minor that begins on the 9th of January. Eight of the best teams in the world will be fighting for that $300K and DPC points. As you can imagine, every single team has the potential to win, which makes it all the more interesting.
