Dota 2: Sources Claim Virtus.pro Are Looking To Sell VP.Prodigy

According to sources at the Russian esports media outlet, cyber.sports.ru, Virtus.pro want to sell their second Dota 2 roster, VP.Prodigy — and they're actively seeking a buyer.

Virtus.Pro's decision to seek out a buyer for Prodigy is likely related to recent tournament changes. Many operators and production companies have begun moving to prohibit the participation of two lineups from the same organization at their events. Likewise Valve doesn't allow two teams from a single organization to compete at DPC events like Majors and The International.

If the rumours are true, then some lucky buyer may be able to snap up a young squad which has been achieving real results.

Since forming VP.Prodigy have shown a lot of success, including a victory at the Epic Prime League, Second Place in the first season of WePlay!'s Pushka League and most recently bringing in third place at ESL One Birmingham.

In total, VP.Prodigy have earned $200,000 USD in prize money over the last two months.

But Virtus.Pro are not the only organisation who has had to trim their T2 teams as a result of the recent tournament changes.

Earlier this month OG said goodbye to OG.Seed for the same reasons.

It will be interesting to see how the T2 DPC scene gets shaken up by the new changes. There has been a lot of discussion surrounding the lack of support for players outside of the top-tier of competitions. Valve have said they're committed to making adjustments to help newcomers and up and coming teams grow and establish themselves. But only time will tell if those promises ring true.
