Dota 2 is one of the most popular games in the world. Of course, there were some ups and downs in terms of the number of players but it always managed to stay somewhere near the top. Having said that, in terms of esports, Dota 2 might actually be the biggest title right now mainly due to the insane prize pools.
It’s been eight years since Dota 2’s official release back in August of 2011. Yesterday, according to DotaBuff, an all-pick ranked game in South East Asia was the 5,000,000,000 (5 BILLIONTH) Dota 2 match since launch. What’s even more insane is that this number does not even include the beta testing games. As we know, Valve did a lot of tests prior to the official release of the game.
This is yet another proof of the current state of the game. Despite the fact that auto battlers and battle royals are currently dominating the market, Dota 2 still holds its grounds and it will likely remain to do so in the future.
