Dota 2: Karl and Gabbi Are No Longer a Part Of T1

The SEA Dota 2 scene has always been fun to watch because it is full of surprises. Even though this region is yet to win TI, there have been a couple of teams over the years that were among the best in the world.

Speaking of the best, some Dota 2 fans expected T1 to become of the leading names in the region. The legendary League of Legend organization ventured into the Dota 2 scene and got some of the best players in the region. Among them were Karl “Karl” Baldovino and Kim “Gabbi” Villafuerte, two of the most recognizable names in SEA Dota 2.

Even though they had a crucial role for the team, these players were unable to help T1 qualify for the big international events. Needless to say, the team will most likely miss out on TI 11, which is why it decided it is time for a change.

Karl and Gabbi are out

Following the disappointing performance, Karl and Gabbi are no longer a part of T1. This decision is strange, to say the least, considering the fact that the TI 11 qualifiers in SEA are just around the corner.

Gabbi became a part of the new roster prior to the start of this year’s DPC when he took the place of Nuengnara “23savage” Teeramahanon. As for Karl, the popular player was a part of the team for around 2 years.

Even though these two players have proven themselves numerous times, T1 only has around 273 DPC points, which is not enough to secure an invitation for TI. As expected, the team wants to do everything in its power to attend the event, and it seems like it all starts with a roster change.

Since T1 announced these players’ departure a couple of hours ago, we don’t know what’s next for them. However, because they are well-known in the industry, it is probably just a matter of time before we see them on another roster.

The team

Following the changes and Gabbi and Karl’s departure, T1’s roster looks like this:

  • Carlo “Kuku” Palad
  • Kenny “ Xepher” Deo
  • Matthew “Whitemon” Filemon
  • Park “March” Tae-won (the coach)

March has always been one of the popular players in this part of the world, so we wouldn’t be surprised if he decides to compete yet again. However, this means that T1 will have to search for a new coach.

What’s interesting is that there are loads of top-tier Dota 2 players available right now, so T1 has plenty of options to choose from. The team might decide to do something similar to OG and get young and talented players. However, we might also see some of the most popular names, such as Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen and Anatan “ana” Pham.

Ana has taken part in a couple of events already, including the PGL Arlington Major 2022. Topson, on the other hand, announced that he wants to get back in professional Dota and compete yet again.

The qualifiers for TI should start around September, so we have a few more weeks to see what will happen. Who knows, T1 might become one of the best teams in Southeast Asia.
