Let’s take a look at a few tips that you can use in Dota 2.
2020 has been a crazy year for every Dota 2 fan. After COVID-19, Valve decided to basically shut down the DPC and postpone TI 10. Even though there are some rumors about the future of this tournament, we don’t know for sure what will happen.
Despite all of the problems, Dota 2 pub scene absolutely flourished. Since most people had to stay home during this pandemic, the number of games sky-rocketed. Although a couple of months have passed, the situation now is more or less the same. That’s why we’ve decided to give you a few tips that you can use so that you can get as much MMR as possible.
Regardless of what bracket you are right now, once you start implementing the things we will mention here, you will quickly start to realize that it’s easy to reach your desired MMR.

Check which are the strongest heroes and always pick them
The first thing that everyone should do is to realize what the meta's like. Each big Dota 2 patch more or less has an impact on how the game is played. Whether it’s about pushing, farming, or a combination of both, you need to know what is the “hottest” thing right now in order to abuse it as much as you can.
There are many ways in which you can learn about what’s hot. In most cases, people decide to watch a few pro games and/or famous Twitch streamers. However, there are other things that you can as well, such as reading an article, for example.
Once you learn the situation, try to check out the strongest heroes in the current meta. This is easier because there are many websites that can give you accurate information in terms of picks, wins, and so on.
As long as you are confident with a hero that’s in the meta, you should start and use it all the time. Sure, it might be a bit boring at times but hey, this is the price you have to pay in order to gain MMR.
Try to annoy your enemies as much as you can
One of the things that set Dota 2 apart from many other games is the psychological experience that every player goes through. Similar to other MOBAs, this game is full of people who rage, flame, and ultimately ruin the game for others.
Even though these are things that no one wants to deal with, you can actually use this to your advantage. There are many ways in which you can annoy your teammates. Whether it will be spamming the Chat Wheel or just playing aggressively, the possibilities are endless.
Once you manage to “get into their skins”, they will most likely start to play worse, which means they will make a lot of mistakes. Needless to say, this is exactly what you need in order to get an edge over your opponent.
Buy items that win games
Similar to the situations with the heroes, there are also items that are really strong in a given patch. Although you should try to abuse them as much as you can, there are also certain items that are always good, regardless of the patch.
Perhaps the best example in this regard is Shadow Blade. This is an item that allows a hero to become invisible for a couple of seconds. As you can imagine, this can be a game-changer if you happen to be in the lower-MMR brackets. In 90% of the cases, there will be no one who will have something to reveal to you. So, you can simply use your item and walk away from a team fight.
Nonetheless, you should try to stick to the meta as much as possible. So, do a quick research and check which are the hottest heroes right now.
Be friendly with your team
This is often something that people take for granted, even though it’s one of the most important things. Being friendly with your teammates means that you can communicate with them and even try to form some sort of tactic, although this is easier said than done in a pub game.
However, being friendly can quickly go sideways, especially if you are getting stomped. There will always be that one guy who will ruin everything and basically wait until you lose. Your job will be not to let this happen. Even though it’s hard, as long as you are positive toward your teammates, your chances of success will increase dramatically.
This is something that many pro players also vouch for, especially Artour “Arteezy” Babaev, who used to be really toxic back in the day.
Play for objectives, not kills
The last thing that we need to point out in this review is that you need to focus on the objectives. We understand that participating in team-fights and getting kills is cool, there is no arguing that. However, it’s the objectives that win games, especially in the lower MMR bracket.
What this means is that you should always prioritize pushing, instead of fighting. This is especially true when it comes down to certain heroes that have the power to push on their own. In fact, you should use this to your advantage whenever possible. It’s not that hard to bring down a tier-three tower if the enemy team is just going around and constantly taking part in team-fights that are pointless.
