Just one day after the first Major of 2022 ended, we already have several notable roster changes. The first one probably doesn’t surprise some of you, considering Evil Geniuses’ performance.
ESL One Stockholm 2022 was too competitive for the NA powerhouse and the team failed to live up to the expectations. After losing nearly every match, EG became the first team to be eliminated from the tournament.
Of course, a team of this caliber can’t be satisfied with its results, so it decided to make some changes. The first one affects Jesse “JerAx” Vainikka because the two-times TI winner is no longer a part of the team.
What happened?
According to the information found on this page, EG removed JerAx from their roster on May 22. This means that the NA powerhouse will probably look for a replacement prior to the beginning of Tour 3.
Some people might be surprised by EG’s decision because people expected to remove some core players. However, it seems like the club decided to make some changes in the support role.
JerAx became a part of EG in 2022. Even though the player decided to retire after winning two TIs, he made a comeback and joined the newly-formed team. Despite winning Tour 1 and Tour 2, EG failed to live up to the expectations.
Aside from the team’s poor performance, JerAx gave a couple of interviews where he explained the tam’s issues with the US visas. This might also have an impact on the club’s decision.
Other roster changes
Aside from JerAx leaving EG, several other roster changes are exciting. The one that stands out is Nigma’s decision to remove Igor “iLTW” Filatov. This also happened on May 22, meaning TI 7 winners will look for a new carry. Of course, we might also see a new midlaner because Amer “Miracle-” Al-Barkawi might move to Pos1.
Another significant roster change that people need to be aware of is related to Quincy Crew. Following the team’s inability to qualify for ESL One Stockholm 2022, the club removed Maurice “KheZu” Gutmann from its roster. We are yet to see who will take his role in the NA squad.
