Dota 2: ESL One Birmingham 2020 Online Invites

Here's all of the teams taking part in this awesome tournament.

ESL One Birmingham 2020 Online is going to be a pretty interesting tournament. The event was first held two years ago and it became one of ESL’s biggest hits. However, since the COVID-19 pandemic took the world by a surprise, this year, ESL decided to host this event online.

Nevertheless, this doesn’t mean that it will be less exciting. On the contrary, the tournament will bring together some of the absolute best teams in the world. They will be playing for their share of the $335K USD prize pool. However, this prize pool will be distributed among all regions, which is worth pointing out.

Regions and Teams

EU & CIS

Europe and CIS will receive the biggest portion of the prize pool, which is not really a surprise. Apart from the fact that these are among the best regions in Dota 2, there will be a total of sixteen teams here. Fourteen of them are directly invited, whereas the other two are going to attend the event via the closed qualifiers.

Despite the big prize, we won’t be able to see two of the best teams from these regions Nigma and Virtus.Pro. Kuro “KuroKy” Salehi Takhasomi and his team mates decided to skip this event; even though many people wanted to see them play.

On the other hand, Virtus.Pro had to make a tough decision because ESL allows only one team per organization and as you know, VP has two. After taking into account many things, the CIS organization decided to send VP.Prodigy, which is their second team.

Here are the teams that we know so far from Europe and CIS;

  • VP.Prodigy
  • OG
  • Team Secret
  • Ninjas in Pajamas
  • Alliance
  • Team Liquid
  • Vikin.gg
  • Team Spirit
  • FlytoMoon
  • Gambit Esports
  • HellRaisers
  • Natus Vincere
  • Cyber Legacy

China

There will be eight Chinese teams in total which will take part in this tournament. Even though we'll see some of the biggest names from this region, arguably the strongest team right now won’t be here. Vici Gaming, who just won the OGA Dota PIT Online, won’t be able to take part in the tournament. That Vici decided not to take part in this event will definitely come as a shock to most fans out there.

Here's all directly invited teams;

  • Invictus Gaming
  • Royal Never Give Up
  • Team Aster
  • EHOME
  • PSG.LGD
  • Sparking Arrow Gaming

Southeast Asia

This incredibly popular Dota 2 region will have to split a prize pool of $40K USD. This is considerably less than the previous two regions but there are also fewer teams here.

Unlike EU, CIS, and China, there are no surprises here. We will see the absolute best teams that SEA has to offer, such as;

  • Fnatic
  • Geek Fam
  • TNC Predator
  • Boom Esports
  • Team Adroit

Literally every single one of them has what it takes to win. So, be sure to watch this region because it will be extremely interesting to see what will happen.

North & South America

Last, but not least, we also have the final two Dota 2 regions – NA and SA. ESL decided to have a little bit different approach here. Instead of featuring equal teams from both regions, the tournament organizers decided to invite four of the best NA teams and beastcoast. The last team is the only representative from South America right now. However, there will be one more SA team joining through the qualifiers really soon.

Here are the NA teams;

  • Evil Geniuses
  • Business Associates
  • CR4ZY
  • Quincy Crew

Even though EG might seem like the big favorite here, the other teams are also pretty strong. However, we're yet to see if they have what it takes to beat the mighty TI 5 champions.

Don’t forget to watch as many series as possible because they will be pretty fun. If you won’t be able to catch any of the action, make sure to give us a follow on our social media accounts. We will try to highlight some of the most important things that happene. Though, it’s definitely better if you can watch everything live.
