ESL have just announced their fourth Australian event — IEM Melbourne, set for late August this year.
ESL is set to host an S-tier event in Melbourne, with the final stage played August 22–23 of August. The event is set to replace IEM Sydney, usually hosted in May.
Instead, this year in May we'll have the ESL Rio Major. This is due to the tournament operator having to change the dates and location.
The final stage of IEM Melbourne will be played at the Rod Laver Arena, (15000 seats), the same venue as the Australian Open.
The event will be the headline of the Melbourne Esports Open festival.
IEM Melbourne 2020 will consist of 16 participating teams. The prize pool for the event is $250,000.
It will be the fourth ESL Australian event; previously, ESL held IEM Sydney three years in a row, beginning 2017.
We expect more details about IEM Melbourne to be revealed soon.
