Learning how to Air strafe
One of the first things you should be paying attention to when you decide to learn how to bunny hop is air strafing. The latter is a term people use to describe the situation where you jump in the air and press one of the direction keys (WAD) while in the air. Doing this will allow you to jump and land in the direction you want.
The idea of air strafing is to be faster while jumping. You can test your movement speed in CS2, and you’ll see that holding your knife will give you the maximum possible movement speed. However, once you start strafing, you may notice a slight buff in your movement speed.
In other words, this is one of the core techniques you need to master to start bunny hopping.
Bind your jump on your mousewheel + additional info
Even though some people who are into bunny hopping jump with the Space key, this is not something we’d recommend. Pretty much all top-tier CS2 players always bind the jump action on their mousewheel. It is up to you decide whether you want to jump with the mousewheel up or down.
Both have their pros and cons, but in most cases, it comes down to personal preferences. Feel free to use both things to see what works best for you.
If you don’t know how to bind your jump, you can open the CS2 console and type the following:
- Bind mwheelup +jump
- Bind mwheeldown +jump
Other information
Know that you know all of this, it’s time to start jumping and practice why air strafing to gain more movement speed. One of the things to keep in mind about bunny hopping is that you may not always get the perfect jump. So, you will become much slower instead of gaining or retaining your movement speed.
The idea of Bhopping, in general, is to jump as soon as you land. This may not seem complicated, but it will require you to time everything right because otherwise, you won’t be able to do it.
Once you get the hang of it, it is time to combine your jumping ability with strafing. Start running, press jump, and then start strafing left and right. If you do everything correctly, you will be able to bunny hop, which will increase your movement speed. Of course, while strafing, you should also move your mouse left and right, depending on where you’re jumping to.
The easiest way to become better at it is by playing and jumping as often as possible. Learning how to do that will take time, but you will eventually get used to it and start improving.
Keep in mind that you can always use the bunny hop technique backward as well as sideways. However, they won’t make that much of a difference other than showing off, so it’s not really worth it.
Advantages of Bhopping
Before you start playing CS2 and practice your bhopping skills, there are a few important advantages we want to point out. With that said, it is important to know that Bhop is not reliable enough to replace your traditional running. So, only use it in situations where it can make a difference.
Speaking of the advantages of bhopping, here are just some of them.
- Cutting corners – many people underestimate this, but bhopping can help you a lot when it comes down to cutting corners. You will be much faster, meaning that your opponents will have problems hitting you.
- Accessing specific locations – Some CS2 maps are more interesting than others because they have all sorts of quirky places you can access. Although you can do that while running and jumping, you can be much faster once you learn how to Bhop.
- Reaching certain heights – This will only help if you’re playing on a couple of maps, such as Train, for example. However, it is something to keep in mind because you can jump on top of the trains much faster.
