Axe

Axe blinks in to start a fight

Axe is a dominant Strength hero in Dota 2. Many people pick Axe for his ability to initiate fights and distract multiple enemies at once. His skills are designed to punish enemy units for attacking him and give him bonus armor to stand and tank incoming damage without dying in combat.

The melee hero has 700 HP and 291 mana at the start of the game. The increased health that Axe has from the time he spawns makes him capable of tanking in lanes. People can take the off lane while playing Axe to farm in the lane till they can buy the items they need to enter battles.

Early game items, such as Tranquil Boots, let Axe regenerate health after taking several last hits. If you’re facing support heroes who can nuke Axe with spells that deal magical damage, you can buy Hood of Defiance, to increase his magic resistance by 18%. Hood of Defiance costs 1500 gold and provides 8.5 health regeneration.

You can activate Barrier with Hood of Defiance to create a shield that guards Axe against spells. Barrier can absorb up to 350 magical damage and last for 12 seconds. It has a cooldown of 60 seconds and consumes 50 mana. You can upgrade Hood of Defiance to Eternal Shroud or Pipe of Insight later in the game to make Axe more durable against support heroes.

The melee hero has a base movement speed of 310. He can cast Battle Hunger on enemy heroes to slow their movement speed by 35% when they are running away from Axe.  Battle Hunger deals up to 25 damage per second and lasts for 12 seconds. It has a cooldown of 5 seconds and needs 80 mana. It also deals bonus damage based on the armor of Axe.

Berserker’s Call can turn Axe into a durable tank hero in the game. You can use Berserker’s Call to force all enemy units in a 300 radius to attack Axe for up to 3.2 seconds. Axe gains an additional 25 armor as a bonus when Berserker’s Call is active. It has a cooldown of 11 seconds and requires 110 mana to be cast.

You can purchase a Blink Dagger to surprise enemy heroes in battles. A Blink Dagger can be bought for 2250 gold. Axe can use a Blink Dagger to teleport himself in any direction for up to 1200 distance. Activate Berserker’s Call immediately after using Blink Dagger to force enemy units to attack Axe. Your allies can take out enemy heroes while they are attacking Axe.

Make sure you have at least one level of Counter Helix before you buy a Blink Dagger. Counter Helix is a passive ability that has a 20% chance to deal up to 180 Pure damage to enemy units in a 275 radius. Both of these skills, Berserker’s Call and Counter Helix, can pierce spell immunity.

Buying a Blade Mail can amplify the effectiveness of Axe in battles. Blade Mail provides 28 attack damage and 6 armor to Axe. You can purchase Blade Mail for 2100 gold. Players can activate Blade Mail right after blinking into battles.

Enemy units striking Axe while Blade Mail is activated will have up to 80% of their damage returned for 5.5 seconds. The bonus armor granted by Berserker’s Call will further protect Axe from taking damage. Blade Mail has a cooldown of 25 seconds and needs 25 mana.

Culling Blade, Axe’s ulti, can be used to land a lethal hit on enemy heroes. You can deal up to 450 Pure damage to opponents with Culling Blade. His ulti has a cooldown of 70 seconds and consumes 150 mana. If the enemy hero dies after being hit by Culling Blade, it provides a permanent increase in armor for Axe.

A successful kill with Culling Blade will boost the movement speed of nearby allies in a 900 distance by up to 30% for 6 seconds. It will also reset the cooldown of Culling Blade. You can increase the damage dealt by Culling Blade by 150 by reaching level 20 through the Talent Tree.

Heart of Tarrasque is an item that provides 45 Strength and 250 health to the melee hero. It can be bought for 5000 gold in the game. Axe can heal for 1.6% of his maximum health after equipping Heart of Tarrasque.

You can buy Assault Cuirass for 5125 gold in Dota 2. Assault Cuirass will increase the armor of Axe by 10 and increase his attack speed by 30. The Assault Aura provided by the item will increase the armor of allies by 5 and reduce the armor of enemy units by 5. It will also increase the attack speed of teammates by 30 in a 1200 radius.

The increased armor and tanking ability of Axe make him one of the easiest utility heroes in Cavern Crawl. Blink Dagger and Blade Mail are fundamental items for Axe to achieve victory in Dota 2 matches. You can consider buying Heart of Tarrasque and Assault Cuirass later in the game to strengthen the stats of Axe.

Pudge

Pudge about to release a Meat Hook to pull an enemy hero toward him

Pudge is a Strength hero who can isolate enemies from their team and drag them to their death. The melee hero can deal Pure damage with his signature Meat Hook to destroy his enemies in battle. He is a durable tank hero and can withstand physical attacks from his opponents without dying in team fights.

The melee hero has base stats of 25 Strength, 16 Intelligence, and 14 Agility. Pudge gains 3 Strength per level and adds more Strength to his stats with each kill that he takes. He has base attack damage of 70 – 76, making him stronger than most heroes at the start of the game. You can get Pudge a Quelling Blade to increase his chances of landing last hits on creeps in the lane.

The Strength hero can level up faster by taking the mid lane. Pudge can max out Meat Hook in the mid lane and roam the map for quick kills after the first 5 minutes of the game. Meat Hook can be used to pull enemy units toward Pudge from a range of 1300. It deals up to 360 Pure damage to his opponents.

Meat Hook has a cooldown of 12 seconds and consumes 110 mana in the game. You can increase the damage of Meat Hook by 120 and decrease the cooldown of Meat Hook by 4 seconds through the Talent Tree. You can plant plenty of Observer Wards around the map to get a glimpse of enemy heroes farming in neutral creep camps to pull them aside using Meat Hook.

You can purchase Arcane Boots to provide sufficient mana for Pudge to be able to use Meat Hooks in lanes. Arcane Boots can be bought for 1300 gold in the game. The item grants 250 mana and 45 movement speed to the Strength hero. You can use Arcane Boots to replenish 175 mana to nearby allies in a 1200 radius every 55 seconds.

If you have any difficulty connecting Meat Hooks on time, you can equip Rod of Atos to improve your hook accuracy. Rod of Atos costs 2750 gold. Pudge will gain 24 Intelligence, 12 Strength, and 12 Agility by including Rod of Atos in his inventory.

You can use Rod of Atos to root enemies for up to 2 seconds with Cripple. The active ability of Rod of Atos, Cripple, has a cooldown of 18 seconds and requires 50 mana. You can hook opponents when they are rooted to have a better chance of pulling them with your spells.

Players can use Rot to slow down the movement speed of hooked enemies by 32%, preventing them from fleeing the battle. Rot deals up to 120 damage per second to all enemy units in a 250 radius. You can increase the movement speed slow of Rot by 16% by reaching level 10.

Pudge grows stronger with every kill due to the effects of Flesh Heap. The melee hero gains up to 2 Strength for every enemy hero that he kills when Flesh Heap has been maxed out. It also works when enemy heroes are killed by Pudge’s allies in a 450 radius.

Flesh Heap can protect Pudge against incoming damage by blocking up to 26 damage. You can increase the Strength gained from Flesh Heap and the damage block bonus by reaching level 25 in the game.

Dismember, Pudge’s ulti, can be used to disable enemy units for up to 3 seconds. It can deal up to 120 base damage per second (DPS) and additional DPS based on the Strength gained by Pudge. Dota 2 players who play Pudge often in their matches are quick with their hands. They can use Meat Hook, Rot, and Dismember, within seconds to separate opponents and slay them in battle.
