Apex Legends’ War Games Event Goes Live Next Week

The latest Takeover event is coming to Apex Legends on April 13 with five new Playlist Takeovers.

The two-week event will see five new Playlist Takeovers interchanging during the course of the War Games event. It will run from April 13 and end on April 27. First off, the event will add a new game mode called Second Chance, giving players one free respawn per match. So rather than your team picking you up at a Respawn Beacon, once per game, you’ll skydive back into the action where you died, after a short period. The game mode will not allow players to earn Wrath (Damage badge), Wake (Kills badge), and Assassin (5+ kills badge) as the game mode would make them easier to obtain.

Next up is Auto Banners, which will see Banner Cards automatically retrieved from dead teammates’ bodies. This mode will also see the spawn rate of Mobile Respawn Beacons increased, so players can jump back into the action even easier.

Killing Time will see the round time of the match reduce each time a legend is killed in the match. This means that rings will start to close a lot faster, especially at the start, with teams needing to move around the map much faster.

Ultra Zones increases the number of hot zones on the map, which increases high-tier loot yields. Additionally, these hot zones will come with a Flash Point, meaning HP and Shield will replenish while inside the zone.

Armor Regen is the final mode, and it simply means armor will regen passively over time. Clocking in at 12 armor per second, the damage will kick in eight seconds after you last took damage. The time between legends is doubled if you completely deplete a Shield. Lastly, this mode will also see Shield Cells no longer spawn on the map.

All five modes will rotate over the course of the event:

  • Second Chance: Tuesday, April 13 to Thursday, April 15
  • Ultra Zones: Thursday, April 15 to Monday, April 19
  • Auto Banners: Monday, April 19 to Wednesday, April 21
  • Killing Time: Wednesday, April 21 to Friday, April 23
  • Armor Regen: Friday, April 23 to Tuesday, April 27

The new event also comes loaded with a new reward track (above), featuring XP boosts, weapon skins, battle pass levels, skins, and gun attachments.

Apex Legend Design Director, Jason McCord also posted a thread on Twitter about the new event and the thinking behind the Playlist Takeover.
