THQ Nordic 2022 Showcase: Exciting Announcements and Trailers

This year's THQ Nordic Digital Showcase was packed with unreleased titles, surprising sequels, and more. Here's everything that went down during the digital presentation, all of the trailer reveals, and what gamers can expect to try out once Gamescom 2022 finally comes!

The showcase's pre-show offered a variety of gameplay demos from Handy Games, who presented first looks for small titles bursting with potential. Throughout their digital demonstration, Handy Games studio announced that playable demos for select games will be ready to play at Gamescom 2022. The game developer's exhibition had games slated to come out for current and next-gen gaming consoles, and even mobile platforms. Here's a quick list:

  1. Endling: Extinction is Forever
  2. De-exit: Eternal Matters
  3. Airhead
  4. Perish
  5. A Rat's Quest
  6. Lethal Honor: Order of the Apocalypse
  7. Wreckfest (Mobile)

Attendees of this year's Gamescom can try 'em out for themselves at Gamescom Hall 10.2, which opens on August 23.

The Showcase

The program proper, hosted by Elle Osili-Wood and Richard Kiess took us through samples of THQ Nordic's videogame charcuterie that thrilled and amazed us.

Alone in the Dark

This ominous (and quite strong) trailer hints at a tale of madness and a struggle to survive in the midst of utter insanity. Set in a fictional gothic American south, the story presented a small cast of interesting (and untrustworthy) characters facing paranormal threats in the heart of “Derceto Manor”.

The game follows the otherworldly experiences of two playable characters. The player may choose to start the game as Emily Hartwood who comes from a distinguished but troubled family, or Edward Carnby, a paranormal investigator who seeks to shed light on the dark mystery surrounding the homestead.  Whether either of the protagonist's perspectives of events is to be trusted, Alone in the Dark's crazy and foreboding trailer is sure to send a tingle down your spine.

Alone in the Dark is set to be released on next-gen consoles and PC.

Destroy All Humans! 2 – Reprobed

Destroy All Humans! 2 – Reprobed's kickass sneak-peak revealed much about the cult classic sequel's remaster, and shines an impressive spotlight on the gameplay's alien-blasting glory. In this exciting announcement, our foul-mouthed conqueror “Crypto” rockets into the scene battling the survivor Blisks, an alien threat that invades the human pshysiology to spawn abnormal monstrosities.

Look forward to Destroy All Humans! 2 – Reprobed launching on next-gen consoles and PC.

Space For Sale

Space For Sale's reveal gives players a first look on an adorably-crafted, 3rd-person, space-colonizing experience it brings. The charming space critters, hilarious themes, and captivating visuals make it a must-see for all the gamers out there looking for a sci-fi gaming experience that's more on the relaxing side. And it can even be played with friends!

Space For Sale by THQ Nordic and Mirage Game Studios will be a PC exclusive.

Gothic 1 Remake

The trailer for the 2001 “Gothic” took us through the dank and perilous mines of the island of Khorinis. The remake's feature boasted modern visuals, hints of the mythos at large, and shows the untamed evils that await the players who are brave enough to delve too deeply.

Gothic 1 Remake will make its way to next-gen consoles and PC.

Jagged Alliance 3

A humorous intro that crescendos into an explosive journey to save an important family member. Jagged Alliance 3 goes on a mission to improve upon the turn-based action-packed genre it's made its home in by modernizing the look and feel of its signature combat, improving customization options, and by expanding the roster of unique mercenaries to choose from.

The third installment in the series will release on PC.

The Valiant

The Valiant's short but compelling trailer grants a look at its crusader-themed plot, which leaves a very strong impression. Play-wise, it is strategy-centered and quite reminiscent of RTS games like Age of Empires. On top of that, the interesting story decides to focus on a medieval story between two brothers-in-arms torn by creed and otherworldly power.

Tempest Rising

This glimpse into the highly-anticipated Tempest Rising offers an intriguing setting that seeks to sate even the most hardcore RTS fans. The game takes place in an alternate timeline where nuclear war has ravaged a post-apocalyptic 1997. Its focus on base-building, distinctive factions, and fast-paced combat has made it one of the most excitable games on this list. And with a 2023 release date, we can hardly wait!

Knights of Honor II: Sovereign

“Immersive”, “Middle Age”, “Riveting”. These are the words I'd use to describe the trailer of Knights of Honor 2. Joined by great narration, impressive graphics, and a simple yet engaging UI, this first-look demands your fealty. Knights of Honor 2's enthusiastic first impression makes the follow-up to the 2005 classic deserve a spot on your wishlist.

Outcast 2 – A New Beginning

A follow-up to its critically-acclaimed predecessor, Outcast 2's “Ulukaï” trailer gave a fantastic display of the teeming alien world of Adelpha. Narrated by the friendly “Maar”, the trailer features the freedom of movement, weapon customization, and the first few story beats of this action-packed adventure. All of this and more makes the sequel to the 1999 “Adventure Game Of The Year” winner something to look forward to.

Wreckreation

Wreckreation is an open-world arcade multiplayer sandbox that allows players to take advantage of its impressive scale to create, modify, and share custom racetracks. As glorious as the trailer makes it seem. The way the tracks can randomly shift or add obstacles in the middle of the race itself provides an added level of difficulty which makes the high-octane showcase even more entertaining to watch.

Way of the Hunter

Get a taste of the untamed lands in “Way of the Hunter”, an open-world first-person shooter that presents an exciting selection of lush environments. Albeit a simple story, this exciting simulator holds much to be discovered in its beautiful terrains, and its “photorealistic” arsenal of firearms.

Catch a copy of the game on August 16 on next-gen consoles and PC.

AEW: Fight Forever

All-Elite Wrestling's game trailer hearkens back to the WWE games of old. With its promised simplistic controls, “Career mode”, and mini-games that don't take itself too seriously, AEW is a fresh fighting game full of personality that can be picked up by any fan of the wrestling scene.

Stuntfest – World Tour

THQ Nordic's promotion for Stuntfest boasts incredible, high-speed stunt competitions that look stunning. Players getting into the game can expect to crash, bounce, and fly their way through the elimination rounds to see who wins the top spot!

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake

Jumping on the “multiverse hypetrain”, Spongebob Squarepants: The Cosmic Shake tells a zany story across the many possible Bikini Bottoms out there. It's up to Spongebob to save his familiar cast of friends from otherworldly threats in THQ Nordic's latest Nickelodeon adventure.
Travel 7 strange new worlds with one of television's most beloved sponges once The Cosmic Shake releases on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
