OWL 2023 Power Rankings – #15 Vancouver Titans

This year's Vancouver Titans will easily be the best we've seen in some time.

Ever since losing their Champion runner-up roster in 2020, the Titans haven't been able to obtain a team like this.

Vancouver Titans 2023 Roster

Two individually talented DPS, a familiar backline duo, and a solid Tank up front are the perfect building blocks for success. Vancouver already showed they were here to play with their decent 2-2 Pro-Am group finish. We have a new Vancouver Titans coming at us this year, no longer needing to be carried by a single player. This will be the most well rounded and competitive Titans team since 2019 without question. Starting with this spot, we are out of the low level team category, and into the teams that can be ranked, but not so easily predicted in terms of overall placement.

Tank

  • Leyton “Punk” Gilchrist

This is a now or never season for a player who has been in the league longer than a large percentage of players. For three years Punk has frontlined for the most mediocre team in the Overwatch League, the Boston Uprising. As a former Off-Tank player it's taking him some time to adapt to being the one and only frontline player of his team. He plays well in his own style, but being so flighty mid-fight just isn't going to work in most cases. Luckily, his DPS are both of the ability and playstyle where Punk's surprise solo dives could go without too much punishment. He's got the game knowledge, he has the experience, if Punk can just hold his line strong and act as more of a barrier between his team and the other, this team won't have to have an individual style anymore. They will be able to commit to the meta and be good enough to win straight through.

Support

  • William “Crimzo” Hernandez
  • Hong-gyu “Faith” Kim

This Support line brings the benefit of experience. Not only are they both experienced in the league, but they are experienced as a duo. A Main Support being familiar with the way their Flex Support plays allows for fluid healing and protection of the team, and each other. Crimzo on his own is sometimes a pop off player, and even though that's not 100% consistent like the likes of some star Flex Supports, his absolute worst is being a passible heal bot in the backline, which still provides basic assistance to the rest of the team.

DPS

  • Luka “Aspire” Rolovic
  • Kamden “Sugarfree” Hijada

Two DPS players who are well proven in their own right, but have no results to show for it yet. For Sugarfree, its simply because he's only just arrived in the Overwatch League. For Aspire however, he's had the misfortune of not being surrounded by the best teammates. Aspire and Sugarfree both have insane carry potential. This is going to give the team so much to fall back on in sticky situations, which might let them edge out wins in teamfights against stronger teams.

Vancouver Titans 2023 Power Ranking

This team has made massive improvements on their roster, keeping their star player and adding consistently good veterans, along with a (very) early Rookie of the Year candidate in the eyes of many. Every team, especially in their region, have made some pretty great improvements though. They've gotten to the point where they will certainly roll over all of the bottom teams without question, and will not be dipping back into that low level team category at all this year. They are going to have to fight week by week against these other, more well renowned teams to prove to us whether their better than just hanging in the middle of the pack. At the #15 spot they can certainly place higher then currently expected, but its something the fans are going to have to see real proof of first.
