Overwatch Teases New Hero #32

Finally, Overwatch's 32nd hero is on the way.

Last update: March 18, 2020

On Twitter, Overwatch teased a new hero. According to the log page revealed, Hero 32 will be a project of Dr. Mina Liao, one of the six founding members of Overwatch.

On their official Twitter account, Overwatch revealed a page from the personal log of Dr. Mina Liao. In her diary, Dr. Liao says that she is working on a project to show that omnics are as alive as humans – saying that “artificial life is still fundamentally life.” As the omnics crisis is about to happen, with violence against omnics on the rise all around the world, Dr. Liao says that Jack, a.k.a Soldier: 76, agreed to authorize her project.

Dr. Mina Liao is one of the six founding members of Overwatch, alongside Jack Morrison, Gabriel Reyes, Ana Amari, Reinhardt Wilhelm and Torbjörn Lindholm. In her personal log revealed today, Dr. Liao is talking about her latest project, the Athena prototype. Athena is a computer system who often helps Winston with his tests. Players encounter Athena on a regular basis – she is behind the voiceover calling the selected map, overtime and results on each game.

Michael Chu, Lead Writer of Overwatch who recently left the company, teased earlier this year that Dr. Liao was “definitely still an important character” and that there was “more to come.”

Does that mean Dr. Mina Liao is Overwatch Hero 32? A day after the original tease, Overwatch published a new document on Twitter.

In this audio extract, we can hear Dr. Mina Liao saying “Everyone, get back! Stay down! Stay down!” followed by the sound of glass shattering. It seems that something went wrong inside Dr. Mina Liao's laboratory.

Two days after the original tease on Twitter, Overwatch reveals Hero 32: Echo.
