Overwatch League: Elsa From Chengdu Hunters Retires

Luo “Elsa” Wenjie, tank player for Chengdu Hunters, retires from the team.

Luo “Elsa” Wenjie, one of the core members of Chengdu Hunters, is retiring from the Overwatch League.

Ever since the team’s creation in 2018, the Chengdu Hunters counted on three tanks: Ding “Ameng” Menghan, Luo “Elsa” Wenjie, and Ma “LateYoung” Tianbin. Elsa is now leaving the team to take a break from professional Overwatch.

Chendgu Hunters now have two main tanks, Ameng and Qiu “GA9A” Jiaxin, for only one off-tank. LateYoung will most likely replace Elsa in the roster, despite rumors of him leaving the team.

According to Arran “Halo” Spake, LateYoung already signed his release papers. Elsa announced his retirement as LateYoung was leaving, so the player had to postpone his departure.

The off-tank players are not the only ones considering leaving the team. Spake states that Ameng and DPS player Yi “JinMu” Hu are also thinking about retiring from Chengdu Hunters. Hunters Vice Manager Yiheng “Luke” Qin denied those rumors.

So far there is no official information about another player leaving the team, or a new off-tank player coming to the Chendgu Hunters. The team will face Philadelphia Fusion on July 9 for the Overwatch League Summer Showdown.
