Overwatch 2's latest tank is breaking into the scene, and we're comparing his power level with the rest of the tanks in our new Overwatch 2 Tank Tier List for Season 8.
Tank heroes provide huge protections for their team in every match. They mitigate the most damage every fight and keep an eye on their supports. But the best tanks wreck the opposition's confidence by consistently blocking, absorbing and denying big set-ups. That said, some heroes in Season 8's tank meta are better than others.
Here's our Season 8 Best Tank Tier List for Overwatch 2.

Overwatch 2 Tank Tier List for Season 8
We placed heroes on each tier based on recent changes and how they'd fare against popular counter-picks. Rankings are highly subjective, and an F-tier Overwatch 2 hero can be a great pick if you have fun playing them.
Overwatch 2 Tank Tier List S-Tier
- Reinhardt
- Sigma
The most powerful Tanks this season possess versatile kits that keep them sturdy while effectively shielding their teams from harm. At the same time, these heroes use hard crowd control to set their teams up for game-winning plays.
Reinhardt proudly stands at the top of our list as the most reliable tank in Season 8. The Crusader's kit has consistently earned him a high winrate across every competitive level of play, and his barrier's range effectively makes him a mobile barrier that either covers his allies' escape or gives them enough space to safely push an objective.
Sigma just manages to hold onto his S-tier status despite the last nerf on his Experimental barrier's regen. Talon's mad astrophysicist still has the most utility out of all of the tank heroes. Kinetic Grasp also gives Sigma incredible sustain, as long as you learn his move cycle.
Overwatch 2 Tank Tier List A-Tier
- D.Va
- Mauga
- Orisa
A-tier tanks are mostly self-sufficient brawlers that do everything a tank should while needing little attention from their supports.
Mauga's high-pressure, high-peel skillset immediately shot him up to a high position on our list. And regardless of his recent nerfs, the Samoan sabateur still packs a heavy punch, so we placed him a little lower on the A-tier.
Orisa sits comfortably on A-tier in spite of the recent nerfs on her Fortify ability due to the amount of ultimates she can destroy with Javelin Spin. Though with her last buff, she's on her way to being S-tier again.
Last on the A-tier is D.Va, whose recent balance changes gave her more sustain in and out of her Meka. More than that, her increased mobility and DPS gave her a bit more threat, making her one of the most forgiving tanks to learn in lower tiers.
Overwatch 2 Tank Tier List B-Tier
- Doomfist
- Ramattra
- Roadhog
- Winston
- Zarya
Tanks on the B-tier are situational and have a lot of variability in their skillset and their winrate.
Doomfist's ultimate just received a new sustain, impressively making him a stronger pick on aggressive teams to counter enemy bunker comps.
Ramattra's secondary form gives him tons of nice sustain, but Null Sector's leader doesn't really do much to protect his allies. However, Ramattra excels in wrecking the enemy's organization and being an effective anti-shield tank.
Zarya's effectiveness can feel like a coinflip this season due to the short uptime of her bubble and her aim-dependent beam, but with everyone playing Mauga, Zarya might become a potent counter-pick in the midseason.
Next is Roadhog. Newly reworked, the wastelander's new bullet spread makes his chainhook combo even more lethal. But what leaves Roadhog on B-tier (for now) is his new playstyle which encourages you to play away from your allies.
Everyone's favorite monke received a new buff this patch which gave him tons of threat against heroes with Shield Health. His utility as a dive hero has kept his cooldowns low and his winrate up, but a lot of timing and practice is needed in order to maximize his kit.
Overwatch 2 Tank Tier List C-Tier
- Wrecking Ball
C-tier tanks are extremely specialized heroes that require considerable skill before they become effective.
Wrecking Ball sits on C-tier for now due to his steep learning curve. Furthermore, his focus on zoning and dive plays are all risky and easily countered in the current competitive meta.
Overwatch 2 Tank Tier List F-Tier
- Junker Queen
The least favorable in most match-ups, especially if your opponent is playing a meta comp.
The Queen of Junkertown finishes last on our tierlist due to her purely brawl-focused build that can only briefly protect allies from harm. Her primary fire was nerfed (why would you decrease the spread of a shotgun?), and the only buff she got was on a skillshot. On top of that, her ultimate is very hit or miss, and requires a lot of team coordination to fully capitalize on.
