KINGDOM HEARTS Missing Link: Everything We Know So Far

KINGDOM HEARTS Missing Link is coming!

Square is no stranger to mobile games (As a developer or a publisher), be they ports of past console titles, like the Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest series, or dedicated mobile titles like Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, Nier Reincarnation, or the recently-released Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis.

Several years after Kingdom Hearts Union χ Dark Road shut down its online functionality and transitioned into an offline app, Square is giving us a new Kingdom Hearts mobile game to enjoy: Missing Link.

Square Enix released the trailer for Missing Link earlier today, two and a half years after the initial reveal.

What Kind of Game is KINGDOM HEARTS Missing Links?

Based on what Square revealed in the trailer, KINGDOM HEARTS Missing Links will be a GPS Action RPG. Those familiar with Niantic and some of their titles, like Pokémon Go, will already feel at home with the GPS mechanic of KINGDOM HEARTS Missing Links.

And don't worry; you'll still be able to enjoy the game even if you don't step outside.

Combat in Missing Links looks similar to other Kingdom Hearts games.

Combat looks similar to other Kingdom Hearts experiences, though players will be able to have parties of allies from across the Kingdom Hearts franchise. Players must collect pieces of these characters, and then it looks like you can use them in battle as your party allies. The trailer showed beloved characters like Woody, Aladdin, Tinkerbell, Simba, Ariel, and Winnie the Pooh. Iconic Keyblade wielders like Sora, Riku, and King Mickey also appear.

The character pieces appeared as silver or gold, so presumably, the game's character pieces will have a rarity system.

Scala ad Caelum, a world Square first introduced in Kingdom Hearts 3, seems to take center stage in KINGDOM HEARTS Missing Link's story. Scala ad Caelum was immediately well-received by fans and appeared in Kingdom Hearts Union X and Kingdom Hearts Dark Road.

Are You the Missing Link?

Square is actively looking for beta testers in the United Kingdom and Australia for the KINGDOM HEARTS Missing Link iOS and Android Closed Beta tests. They have repurposed the old Kingdom Hearts Union χ Dark Road into the NA account for Missing Link. NA players can follow them there for updates.

The Closed Beta for iOS will begin on November 29 and run through December 8. Square Enix plans to launch the Android beta in January 2024.

Players can team up with each other in parties of up to three to compete in atypical mobile game co-op events, like raid bosses in the Closed Beta. The Closed Beta will even offer controller support for PS4, PS5, and Xbox wireless controllers.

Interested players have until November 19 to register their interest. Do not try to apply more than once, or Square will invalidate your applications. Players can apply here.
