Here’s a complete walkthrough of the Innkeeper’s Husband quest to unlock the Cook in No Rest for the Wicked.
No Rest for the Wicked is finally out in Early Access and we’re pretty happy with how the game is shaping up! It’s a top-down Action RPG with souls-like combat and plenty of side quests already to keep your belly filled.
The Innkeeper’s Husband is one of the side quests that you can encounter early on when you first get to Sacrament. But it can be a bit confusing for the players since it involves some backtracking. And since it unlocks a Merchant NPC in the game, you don’t want to miss it either.
Don’t worry; we’ve got your back!
In this article, we’ll go through the steps to complete The Innkeeper’s Husband side quest and help you unlock the Cook in No Rest for the Wicked.
How to Start The Innkeeper’s Husband Quest in No Rest for the Wicked
First thing first, before you can complete the quest, let’s talk about how to trigger it. We’ll be honest; we spent hours looking for the NPC who gives the quest, so we won’t blame you if you’re having trouble finding her.
The NPC that you need to talk to to start the quest is Caroline, the Innkeeper. You can find her at this location on the map.
When you talk to her, she will tell you that her husband is missing. She will task you with returning him. And thus begins The Innkeeper’s Husband side quest.
The Innkeeper’s Husband Quest Walkthrough
Once you have the quest activated, head to the first Cerim Whisper you unlocked in The Shallows. You can use the fast travel from the Sacrament Cerim Whisper to make the trek faster.
From here, use the two ladders to climb up and you’ll see a broken bridge. Sprint towards it and you’ll be able to jump across the gap.
On the other side of the bridge, you’ll find the NPC Gordon. Talking to him reveals that he’s stuck on this side of the bridge. It’s your job to help find an alternate way for him to get across.
You’ll also notice an item on a corpse next to him. Loot the corpse to get the Western Bridge Key. Behind Gordon, you can see a Ladder that you can kick down. With the Key in your possession, you’re now going to work your way around to the other side of the Ladder. So let’s first find the door that the Key unlocks.
Head to the location marked in the image above, which is near the second Cerim Whisper. The door marked on the image would be locked. But you can open it with the Western Bridge Key in your hand.
Proceed through the door. The enemies in this region are tough, so brace yourself. We recommend stocking up on plenty of food to keep your health up. You’ll even face a mini-boss a bit further down.
You’ll eventually get to a large courtyard with a blocked gate at the end. There’s a contraption in the middle that you can use to open the gate. Make sure there are no enemies nearby when you use it.
Go through the now unlocked gate, and head left. You’ll see an opening on your right. Go through it, and continue going forward through the wooden bridge. At the end of the bridge, you’ll come face to face with another enemy near a Campfire. Dispose of him, loot the chest and then you’ll see the Ladder.
Kick the Ladder down and talk to Gordon. He will thank you, and the quest will be over. Don’t worry; you don’t need to escort him while holding off the enemies. He will make his own way back.
Now, when you go back to Sacrament, he will show up as a Merchant NPC who sells cooking ingredients and meals. You can even upgrade his shop using the Building Projects option from Danos to get access to better meals and ingredients.
The Innkeeper’s Husband side quest in No Rest for the Wicked is a pretty fun one. And although the enemies that you need to take down can be a bit beefy, if you have a good grasp of the combat in the game, you should have no trouble getting through them.
Now that you have a clearer picture of how to find and complete the quest, you can easily add an extra NPC in Sacrament. Good luck!
