The #1 seeds from EMEA and Korea rocked the Worlds stage in a G2 Esports vs Gen.G best-of-3 match for their place in the quarterfinals bracket.
As teams moved through the Swiss bracket, the time eventually came to decide the first entries for the Quarterfinal series. Following LNG and JDG's intense slugfest came G2's fateful clash against the LCK's next generation; Gen.G. This LCK team's tour de force in the Swiss standings have propelled them into the lead, with teams like Caps' roster following close behind. At this point, G2 was the only western pro-team that got into the top 5. So it wasn't a stretch to say that the entire EMEA region's hopes for a quick Worlds win rested on the Kings' shoulders.

G2 Esports vs Gen.G Recap
Game 1
A tricky draft led to GG Delight playing Rakan which Mikyx countered with Lissandra. Afterwards, Peanut went with Lee Sin and Chovy locked in Sylas, making it a flex draft reminiscent of the 2022 meta. Meanwhile, Caps and co. were looking very short-ranged with a Maokai frontline and a Renekton on BB, so they needed to play forward if they wanted to maximize on their crowd control.
Hard trades across the map made G2 hesitant to invest anything early on. For the moment, Caps' Tristana was pushing hard on mid while both sidelanes took rough ganks from both junglers. But while Peanut was focusing on their top jungle, Yike took first Mountain Drake uncontested. As all this was happening, Doran was doing his best to control his lane with Jax, which was evenly matched with Brokenblade's Renekton.
The first skirmish began over the first Rift, which let Caps find an angle over Chovy for first blood. A cheeky Rift charge to GG's tier two top turret gave G2 a nice lead. However, after Gen.G claimed a dragon of their own, the tide started to turn in their favor.
A scrappy 4v4 on top resulted in G2 getting caught out of position. Chovy stole Lissandra ult, his team found an in and proceeded to wipe everyone out, saving BrokenBlade for last. To add salt to the wound, the LCK #1 seed took their 2nd drake shortly after.
Delight's amazing Rakan helped Gen.G get through Maokai's ultimate and Lissandra peel to engage, eliminate the control mage and let Doran and Peyz clean up.
In the end, Gen.G took another dragon before heading into G2's base to end the first game.

Game 2
A quick ban on Sylas and a bold Lucian – Nautilus combo pick set the stage for G2's next clash with Doran's team. With the LCK's botlane having Xayah – Rakan, it was all G2 could do to stop them from completely dominating the laning phase. However, Peanut's Rell made his team's engage comp even more formidable.
As Game 2 began, hot trades started the botlane off with G2's hard push up to the tier one tower. After baiting Peyz's Cleanse, the opposition started being more aggressive to even out the playing field. Meanwhile, smart ganks from Yike damaged Chovy enough to force a reset.
Hans Sama took first blood after some patience in botlane, but Gen.G answered soon after. But slowly, the boys from South Korea racked up the kills to widen the gold gap. And with no one to scale against Chovy's Akali, not even the backline was safe. By minute 20, Gen.G had the Kings of Europe on the ropes.
Eventually, it was clear to everybody that G2's comp didn't have the damage to contest kills or objectives. Eventually, Generation Gaming wiped G2's defenses in all three lanes and secured their 4th win of the week.
Gen.G won the bo3 against G2 Esports and will join JDG in the quarterfinal series on November.
