Fortnite: Lightsabers Rumored to Return for Star Wars Day

May the 4th be with you!

Fortnite and Star Wars have maintained a healthy relationship dating back to 2019 with the first-ever live event ahead of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. At the event's conclusion, Lightsabers became a usable weapon in Fortnite for the first time. Fortnite's cross-promotion with Star Wars lasted just under one month, at which point Lightsabers left the loot pool. Since then, Epic Games and Star Wars have collaborated on several in-game Fortnite cosmetics, but Lightsabers have resurfaced only once–briefly in Chapter 2 Season 2.

Recent news from reliable sources in the Fortnite scene has indicated that Lightsabers could soon come out of the vault. After spending two years off the grid, players might have the chance to wield the Jedi's legendary weapon once again.

Lightsabers to Return on May 3?

The leaks arrived courtesy of HYPEX – a well-known and accurate member of the Fortnite scene. His comment states as follows:

“It's nearly confirmed now that Lightsabers will return next update on May 4th, as Epic are working on a challenge that requires you to deal damage with a lightsaber.”

He later added Epic Games recently that the Lightsaber Chests received an update. It would be a fitting revival, considering rumors of Darth Vader appearing in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 3 as either a Battle Pass character or a purchasable cosmetic outfit. An in-game Star Wars Day celebration has occurred twice before, and it stands to reason that Epic Games would bring it back ahead of Chapter 3 Season 2.

Fortnite x Star Wars Skins Also to Return?

Fortnite x Star Wars

Beyond Lightsabers, Epic Games created several Fortnite x Star Wars skins over the years. We've seen characters such as Rey, Finn, Kylo Ren, Imperial Stormtrooper and Sith Trooper available via the Item Shop. More recently, Epic Games collaborated with Star Wars again to bring Boba Fett, Fennec Shand and Krrsantan into Fortnite.

We are just over one week away from the next patch. We'll soon see whether Lightsabers will make their triumphant return and what other implications this could have.
