Breaking News: Team Liquid Partners with Marvel Entertainment, Reveals Crossover Jerseys and Merch

Well, now we know what Project Whirlwind was all about.

In what may be one of the largest esports partnerships of all time, Team Liquid unveiled a strategic partnership with Marvel Entertainment today when the TL League of Legends team entered the Rift Rivals tournament wearing Captain America/Team Liquid crossover jerseys.

The partnership includes exclusive crossover merchandise, available for purchase here after 1:30 PT, including:

  • TL x Marvel Captain America Jerseys
  • Team Liquid x Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame Quantum Realm Jersey
  • TL x Marvel Iron Man Jersey
  • Team Liquid x Marvel Logo Tee

The press release indicates that there will be more exclusive merchandise and content crossovers available throughout the length of the partnership.

This is Marvel’s first foray into a direct partnership with an esports team. The entertainment giant has had crossovers before, however, most notably in Fortnite. Their partnership with Team Liquid, however, goes beyond a limited-time event.

Team Liquid teased the mysterious Project Whirlwind on Monday, sending Twitter and the team’s subreddit into a dive of furious speculation.

While many surmised that the tweet was hinting at an upcoming rebrand or franchise announcement, it turns out that it was Marvel all along. Eagle-eyed fans may have noticed that the date in the teaser was in the trademark Marvel font. Additionally, the background itself was in-line with Marvel’s usual color scheme.

Either way, Marvel has stepped into the esports space, and it doesn’t seem like they’re leaving any time soon.
