Ending off the month of October, Marvel and EA announced on October 31 that the two would join together in developing multiple Marvel titles. These games will be action-adventure titles with original stories for console and PC.
The first game that will emerge from this partnership is an untitled Iron Man game. Montreal-based Motive Studio is heading up the development of the title. Olivier Proulx is the Executive Producer at Motive and previously worked as a Producer on Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.
Motive Studio has a fair share of experience developing Triple AAA titles, having worked on Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Star Wars: Squadrons. Motive Studio is also heading up the development of the anticipated remake of Dead Space, slated for release on January 27, 2023.
A New Beginning For Marvel's Video Game Universe?
An Iron Man title is the perfect game to kick off this new partnership, as it is Iron Man who kicked off the Marvel Cinematic Universe. You'd think a gun in a suit with a lot of things that blast and go boom would work well in a video game. But sadly, Iron Man has never had a truly good video game. The movie tie-in games fell victim to the curse of mediocrity. Iron Man might finally be getting the video game he deserves.
There's no confirmation on what heroes or villains will take center stage in the other games yet, so we'll have to wait and see. Marvel's recent lineup of video games has been somewhat inconsistent.
Marvel's Spider-Man, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Marvel Snap have been well received. Marvel's Avengers, on the other hand, is easily one of the most disappointing releases in years. MARVEL Future Revolution had hype at launch but has made little noise since.
Marvel's Midnight Suns will come out in early December this year and looks promising. Firaxis Games knows its way around tactical video games, and it should keep up busy until Iron Man comes.
