Find the rarest loot with this comprehensive guide on how to find the best weapons in Baldur's Gate 3
Early access playthoughs have given us plenty of info on Larian Games' highly-anticipated Bladur's Gate installment.
The latest release teaser let us gleam more about the much-awaited fantasy RPG, and from what we've seen, it looks like the developers are in it for the long haul. Questlines filled to the brim with magic and political intrigue, powerful aberrations and a colorful variety of romance options! We're less than a month away from getting the full release (at time of writing), and all signs are pointing to a fantasy adventure game that, if successful, will push the boundaries of what it means to make a faithful D&D adaptation.
Now if you've played any type of fantasy RPG for the past 40 years, you'll know that getting rare loot is a huge fun factor. Who doesn't like being decked out in gold-grade gear? And according to the playtesters from the previous “Panel From Hell” showcase event, some weapons in Bladur's Gate 3 are so powerful that they'll even be used as the cornerstone of your build (some magic items are reportedly race-locked). With all that in mind, we've consulted the biggest adventurer guilds in order to compile a list of the best weapons in Baldur's Gate 3.
Now the list of the best weapons in Baldur's Gate 3 may change in future updates, so we'll keep it fresh by continuously updating this guide. Wouldn't want to face an empowered Beholder with an underpowered Glaive, would we?
Without further ado, let's delve into the details and look at the most powerful armaments that are currently available in the game. Here are the strongest weapons in Baldur's Gate 3.
The Best Weapons in Baldur's Gate 3
1. Sword of Justice
First up on our list is the Sword of Justice, an enchanted +1 long sword that not only deals more damage when you wield it with both hands, but also lets you cast “Shield of Faith” as a Bonus Action (nicknamed “Tyr's Protection”), giving a creature +2 to their Armor Class!
Rarity: Rare
Weapon Type: Martial, Two-handed
Damage: 2d6+1 Slashing
Skills: Tyr's Protection, Pommel Strike, Lacerate, Cleave
Where do I get the Sword of Justice?
When you take the “Hunt the Devil” quest and go to the Risen Road and look for and NPC named Anders, who will offer the quest to slay a Tiefling in exchange for the Sword of Justice.
2. Sorrow
Next on our list of enchanted heavy-hitters is Sorrow, a +1 greatsword that deals extra 1d4 psychic damage per hit, and lets you ensnare opponents on a Bonus Action.
Rarity: Rare
Weapon Type: Martial, Two-handed
Damage: 1d10+1 Slashing
Skills: Regret, Ensnaring Strike, Brace, Rush Attack, Lacerate
Where do I get Sorrow?
Go to the Hidden Vault and use the Rune of the Wolf. Alternatively, you can go to Druid Grove and accept Ralf's quest to rescue Halsif (or just steal the weapon from Ralf).
3. Giantbreaker
We had to give ranged weapons some love on this list, so coming up on #3 is the Giantbreaker crossbow. Arguably the strongest ranged weapon in the game, it also lets you shoot at your targets with advantage at the cost of moving less in a turn.
Rarity: Rare
Weapon Type: Martial, Heavy, Loading
Damage: 1d10 piercing
Skills: Piercing Shot, Brace (Ranged)
Where do I get Giantbreaker?
Accept the quest “Find the Missing Shipment” and defeat the horde of gnolls at the Risen Road. Successfully rescuing the people trapped in the cave will lead you to a Zhentarim hideout. Closing the quest will unlock more purchase options in Brem's store inside the hideout, making Giantbreaker available.
4. Shattered Flail
Apart from its interesting make, the Shattered Flail sports a +2 bonus on its attack and damage modifiers and Yeenoghu's Gift, a skill that lets you heal 1d6 for every hit you land, but there's a catch. Every time you end a turn without hitting anyone, you slowly go Mad!
Rarity: Rare
Weapon Type: Simple, One-handed
Damage: 1d6+2 bludgeoning
Skills: Concussive Smash, Yeenoghu's Gift
Where do I get Shattered Flail?
Dropped by Flind, a gnoll leader found at the Risen Road.
5. Sussur Greatsword
For a weapon that isn't rare, Sussur Greatsword gives you a hugely undervalued perk: enemies you hit get Silenced. It doesn't seem all that impressive, but if you ever come across powerful enemy spellcasters you need to shut up, this sword comes in handy.
Rarity: Uncommon
Weapon Type: Martial, Two-handed
Damage: 2d6+1 slashing
Skills: Silences targets you hit, Pommel Strike, Lacerate, Cleave
Where do I get Sussur Greatsword?
Clear the “Finish the Masterwork weapon” quest at Blighted Village.
6. Xyanyde
Up next on our uncommon weapon showcase is the Xyanyde, a weapon that has a ~40% chance to apply Faerie Fire on a foe when you miss them with an attack. Granted, this effect only happens once per short rest, but being able to give the entire party advantage on an important target makes it a worthwhile addition to your magical arsenal.
Rarity: Uncommon
Weapon Type: Simple, One-handed
Damage: 1d6 bludgeoning
Skills: Xyanyde's Fire, Concussive Smash
Where do I get Xyanyde?
Dropped by Minthara at the Shattered Sanctum.
7. Hamarhraft
The dwarves outdid themselves on this one. Wielding Hamarhaft augments your jumps with AOE thunder damage and lets you deal 2 bludgeoning damage even on a miss. Talk about ingenuity.
Rarity: Uncommon
Weapon Type: Martial, Two-handed
Damage: 2d6 bludgeoning
Skills: Shockwave, Tenacity, Backbreaker, Concussive Smash
Where do I get Hamarhaft?
Follow the Risen Road until you arrive at Waukeen's Rest, and look for a chest inside a burning building.
8. Morningstar +1
If magic greathammers aren't your style, martial classes can opt for the upgraded version of the one-handed Morningstar, which also has Tenacity as well as other disabling weapon skills.
Rarity: Uncommon
Weapon Type: Martial, One-handed
Damage: 1d8+1 piercing
Skills: Tenacity, Heartstopper, Concussive Smash
Where do I get Morningstar +1?
Go to the Druid Grove. At The Hollow, look for the merchant Dammon and purchase the weapon.
9. Faithbreaker
Continuing the trend of uncommon weapons that shouldn't be, we have the Faithbreaker, a devastating martial weapon that dishes out extra force damage on hit (almost no monsters with Force resistance exist) and a possible knockback, on top of its regular weapon skills.
Rarity: Uncommon
Weapon Type: Martial, Versatile
Damage: [1d8+1 (One-handed), 1d10+1 (Two-handed) bludgeoning] + 1d6 force
Skills: Absolute Power, Backbreaker, Concussive Smash, Weakening Strike
Where do I get Faithbreaker?
Dropped by Dror Ragzlin at the Shattered Sanctum.
10. Staff of Arcane Blessing
Rounding out this list is a staff for the magic casters out there. The Staff of Arcane Blessing lets you cast a buffed version of the Bless spell which grants a bonus 2d4 to a chosen ally's Spell Attack rolls.
Rarity: Uncommon
Weapon Type: Simple, Versatile
Damage: 1d6+1 (One-handed), 1d8+1 (Two-handed) bludgeoning
Skills: Bless (Level 1), Topple, Mystra's Blessing
Where do I get Staff of Arcane Blessing?
Defeat the boss at the top of Arcane Tower and equip the ring it drops. Doling this will reveal a hidden elevator button. Insert a Sussur Flower inside the generator and press the new button to access the very top of the tower where you'll find the staff.
