While one champion returns from our best toplaners list, there are some unusual picks among the Best Midlaners in LoL Patch 14.3
Patch 14.3 still has almost a week left of it before Patch 14.4 drops! Let’s take a quick look at the best midlaners of the update so you can get that sweet LP before the mate shifts again!
Best Midlaners in LoL Patch 14.3
Aurelion Sol
Aurelion Sol was featured in our Biggest Winners and Losers of Patch 14.3 list as he got some nice buffs in this update. His Q Mana Cost has been decreased, while it also gives more Stardust stacks, his W now has a lover cooldown and mana cost, and the Q bonus damage during flight has been increased. While his E gives less stacks, he still shot up in stats, especially winrate.
Aurelion Sol Runes
For Runes, you want to take Sorcery primary with Arcane Comet as your E can guarantee a hit. Manaflow Band helps you with your early mana issues, while Absolute Focus and Scorch let’s you trade better. For secondaries, Conditioning and Overgrowth emphasizes on your already strong lategame, making you unstoppable. ASol is a bit immobile, so you should take the Tenacity fragment as well.
Aurelion Sol Abilities
Ability Priority: R>Q>W>E
For abilities, you’ll want to start with Q and max it first as it’s your main damage source. Before the update, you could argue that E max second was a viable way to go, but after the 14.3 changes, W should be maxed second so you can roam more (and deal even more damage with Q)
Aurelion Sol Build
Start with Doran’s Ring, then immediately rush Rylai’s Crystal Scepter as it let’s you stack Stardust faster. Liandry’s Torment and Sorcere’s Shoes help you take down tankien targets, as well a Cryptbloom, but that can be built later as well. If you need more damage, Shadowflame is a great item thanks to it’s “crits”, and Rabadon’s is always a great choice for the raw AP.
Twisted Fate
The buffs Twisted Fate got went a little overboard even according to the balance team. After being among the best toplaners, he made it into the best midlaners as well. However, this time it’s AP Twisted Fate instead of AD (AD works in mid as well, but AP is slightly better).
Twisted Fate Runes
For AP TF, First Strike is a great choice as you can trigger the Inspiration Keystone with Wild Cards easily. Twisted Fate can use the new rune Triple Tonic as all the extra potions are great for him. Paired with Minion Dematerializer and Cosmic Insight, he can control the lane easily.
For secondaries, Conditioning and Overgrowth works great for that midgame durability spike.
Twisted Fate Abilities
Ability Priority: R>E>W>Q
Even though historically AP Twisted Fate maxed Q, the new version maxes E, just like the AD version. However, you put 2 points into W at levels 1 and 4. Afterwards, max your E, the W, then Q, as you don’t need extra points in Q to trigger First Strike.
Twisted Fate Build
For your build, you want to start with Doran’s Blade as you’ll have mana sustain with Blue Card. Rush Rod of Ages to get the extra level early, then get a Lich Bane for the burst with your E+W+First Strike combo. Rapid Firecannon is always a good pick for the long range Gold Card, but with the buffs TF got, you can be more aggressive with a Rabadon’s Deathcap or even a Stormsurge.
Yone
While we suggest AP Twisted Fate for the midlane, there is a proper AD pick among the best midlaners of Patch 14.3. Yone has been popular in both pro and casual levels of play since last year, and the item changes of Season 14 didn’t slow him down either.
Yone Runes
Lethal Tempo is your best bet as most of your damage comes from your autos especially lategame. The Triumph – Legend: Alacrity – Last Stand combo works best for Yone, and if you pair that up with Bone Plating, you can stay in the fight much longer. However, Second Wind also works against poke-heavy opponents, and Overgrowth can help you survive as well.
Yone Abilities
Ability Priority: R>Q>E>W
Start with Q and max it first as it’s a pseudo-AA. Then your E comes next for the reduced cooldown and more damage. While W is a great trading tool in the laning phase, it can be left for last as your other skills are more important.
Yone Build
After a Doran’s Blade starter, you can get Berserker Greaves early as your Passive provides more damage the more Attack Speed you have. Even though Yone benefits from Crit more than other champions, Blade of the Ruined King is your best choice for a first item. However, you want to get Infinity Edge after BotRK as it’s an incredibly strong 2 item powerspike on the Unforgotten. Afterwards, you can go into a more tankier build such as Death’s Dance, Bloodthirster and Guardian Angel in order to make your dives safer. Your job will be to get to the enemy backline to kill them more often than fighting tanks, so survivability sometimes equals more damage!
Of course, picks like Gragas, Taliyah, Qiyana and even Kassadin work great in this patch, so test to your heart’s content. But if you want some of the best, try out the champions mentioned above – and check back next week for the best midlaners in 14.4!
