Xbox Games Showcase & Starfield Direct Recap: 27 Game Reveals

Two hours, 27 game reveals; one of them being the long-anticipated Starfield Direct. This weekend was a very exciting one for Xbox fans. Here's everything you may have missed from the Xbox Games Showcase. 

Fable 4

The Xbox Games Showcase started off with a cheeky bang with a reveal of Playground Games' upcoming Fable 4. Fable is a beloved yesteryear RPG franchise, most known for its tongue-in-cheek British humor and cartoony art style. 

The last Fable game released was Fable Anniversary, a remastered version of Fable: The Lost Chapters, which came out nearly a decade ago. Most fans had little hope of a Fable revival, but it is, and we're here for it.

The Fable 4 reveal trailer didn't reveal much (Aside from a Jack and the Beanstalk-style reference), but the game will be available on Day 1 on Game Pass, so that's good news.  

South of Midnight

South of Midnight is a macabre action-adventure game set in the American Deep South. Featuring a beautiful claymation art style, the game with be available on Day 1 on Game Pass. Stay tuned for some actual gameplay reveals. 

Star Wars: Outlaws

Han Solo, the game, also known as Star Wars: Outlaws, is an upcoming open-world Star Wars game by Ubisoft. You take on the role of Kay Ness, a scoundrel making her way in the galaxy alongside her companion Nix. 

It will be released sometime in 2024. Expect Ubisoft to reveal more details on Star Wars: Outlaws today during Ubisoft Forward 2023. 

33 Immortals

33 Immortals is a co-op action-roguelike where you play as one of many damned souls trying to survive the wrath of God. 33 Immortals supports co-op play of up to 33 players (Hence the name) for a chaotic and fun roguelike experience. 

33 Immortals will be playable on Day 1 on Game Pass some time in 2024.

Payday 3

A decade after the release of Payday 2, Overkill Software and Starbreeze Studios will release Payday 3 to the world. Expect the third installment of the heist simulator franchise to deliver even more fantastic co-op FPS action. 

Payday 3 will release on September 21, 2023, and it will be available on Day 1 on Game Pass. In the meantime, you can obtain Payday 2 for free, courtesy of the Epic Games Store Mega Sale Free Game Giveaway until June 15.

Persona 3 Reload

The Persona 3 remake is coming, and it's coming with a Persona 5 gameplay coating. It will release sometime in early 2024 and will be available on Day 1 on Game Pass. 

It's important to note that Reload will not include content from Persona 3 FES and Persona 3 Portable. It's unknown if Atlus will release that content sometime in the future. 

Avowed

Legendary developer Obsidian Entertainment's latest RPG, Avowed, takes you through the world of Eora to an island called the Living Lands.

The Living Lands are suffering from a mysterious plague, and you have come to the island to investigate and do something about it. As expected of Obsidian Entertainment, the game's trailer implies a freedom of player choice that will shape the Living Lands for better or worse. 

Avowed will release in 2024 and be available on Day 1 on Game Pass.

Sea of Thieves: Legend of Monkey Island

Monkey Island is one of the most iconic point-and-click adventure franchises ever made, and it's getting three new installments. 

Sea of Thieves: Legend of Monkey Island will be the first of a three-part Tall Tale expansion, picking up where The Curse of Monkey Island left off. You'll be able to meet Guybrush Threepwood himself and explore locales like Mêlée Island and Monkey Island with a more Sea of Thieves style of gameplay. 

The three parts of Legend of Monkey Island will have monthly installments, with the first released on July 20. And the best part of all? This new Monkey Island adventure will be entirely free. 

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024

The latest addition to the Microsoft Flight Simulator franchise is coming to the next generation of gaming sometime in 2024. Flight enthusiasts will be able to experience all varieties of flight in new and improved ways thanks to the new Asobo Studio engine. It will be available on Day 1 on Game Pass.

Additionally, Dune will be coming to MS Flight Simulator 2023 on November 3 this year to coincide with the release of Dune: Part Two. 

Senua's Saga: Hellblade II

The sequel to Ninja Theory's Senua's Sacrifice is coming in 2024. The eerie trailer at the Xbox Games Showcase didn't reveal much gameplay, but it definitely piqued interest. Stay tuned as Senua continues her journey throughout Viking Iceland. It will be available on Day 1 on Game Pass.

Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth

Ichiban Kasuga might have Infinite Wealth in the upcoming installment of the Like A Dragon series, but he has nothing in the way of clothes, apparently, waking up naked in a western part of the world. He has no idea how he got there, but we're sure to find out in the newest adventure of Ichiban Kasuga and Kazuma Kiryu. 

Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth will release sometime in early 2024. 

Fallout 76: Atlantic City

Fallout 76 has enjoyed over 15 million visitors to Appalachia since the game's release, and players will have a new locale to explore: Atlantic City. 

New Vegas on the West Coast has been a smash hit with Fallout fans, so let's see how fans will react when they hit the gambling streets of the East Coast's Atlantic City. I hope there will be a feral ghoul version of Nucky Thompson.

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess 

Capcom's newest IP, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, will likely invoke memories of their classic Onimusha series, at least from a design perspective. The trailer was light on story details, but it features a gorgeous and vibrantly colored game world and a core gameplay loop that will feel very familiar and enjoyable for fans of previous games in Capcom's catalog. 

It will be available on Day 1 on Game Pass. You can learn more about Path of the Goddess today during the Capcom Showcase event. 

Forza Motorsport

A household name in simulation racing games, the next generation of Forza Motorsport is coming to the latest and greatest gaming consoles on October 10. Players can expect over 100 new cars to the lineup of over 500. 

Forza Motorsport will be available on Day 1 on Game Pass.

Elder Scrolls Online: Necrom

The Elder Scrolls Online: Necrom is the seventh chapter in the ESO story and part of the Shadows Over Morrowind storyline. Necrom includes over 30 hours of story content and will have players exploring two primary locales: the Telvanni Pennisula and Oblivion's Apocrypha realm. 

PC ESO players have already enjoyed Necrom for over a week, but Necrom won't be coming to Xbox users until June 20.

Overwatch 2

The cancellation of Overwatch 2's PvE Hero Mode really did a number on the community's morale, but Season 6 Invasion's teaser trailer at the Xbox Games Showcase should improve the mood. 

Story Missions, new modes, and a new character are coming on August 10. Players with the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate can unlock Overwatch 2's six new characters instantly via the New Heroes Starter Pack. 

Persona 5 Tactics

Do you like Persona 5? Do you like tactical RPGs? Well, Persona 5 Tactics is right up your alley and coming soon on November 17 and will be available on Day 1 on Game Pass. 

Jusant

Jusant is an action-puzzle game centered around climbing. Scale the Tower and uncover its secrets. There is no set release date yet, but a demo is playable on Steam right now.

Still Wakes the Deep

Still Wakes the Deep is a first-person narrative horror game from the minds behind Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs and Dear Ester. You're placed in the shoes of your average oil rig worker dragged into a world of horror and trying to save his fellow crew members. 

Still Wakes the Deep is coming soon, in early 2024, with Day 1 available on Game Pass.

Dungeons of Hinterberg

Dungeons of Hinterberg is an action-adventure RPG with a vibrant and colorful art style, magic, swords, puzzle-solving, and snowboards. There's lots to see in Hinterberg, and it's coming sometime in 2024. Available on Day 1 on Game Pass. 

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty

Johnny Silverhand is back, and Idris Elba is joining him. Well, a character played by Idris Elba. 

NUS President Myers has crashed into hostile territory in Dogtown, and it is up to the player to save her. Johnny Silverhand and Idris Elba's newly introduced Solomon Reed will also be major players in this spy-thriller-inspired Cyberpunk 2077 expansion. 

Phantom Liberty will release to the masses on September 26. 

Cities: Skylines II

8 years after Cities: Skylines, fans are finally getting a sequel. The first game has sold over 12 million copies, and the sequel looks to build upon everything the original did well. 

Cities: Skylines II will release on October 24 and be available on Day 1 on Game Pass. 

Metaphor: ReFantazio 

Developed by the same people who brought you Persone 3, 4, and 5, Metaphor: ReFantazio is a new Atlus fantasy RPG IP. Given the stellar track record of Atlus, it didn't take much for the brief trailer to get fans of the developer excited for the newest release. 

Metaphor: ReFantazio will be coming sometime in 2024.

Towerborne

Towerborne is an upcoming side-scrolling co-op action RPG from Stoic. An apocalypse has struck the world, and survivors have taken shelter in a massive tower called the Belfry. Heroes must leave the relative safety of the Belfry and venture out into the world to slay monsters and save what's left of the human race. 

Towerborne is coming in 2024 and will be available on Day 1 on Game Pass. 

Clockwork Revolution

Clockwork Revolution, not to be confused with the non-existent Bioshock Infinite 2 (Though the developers have already addressed comments on aesthetic similarities to Bioshock Infinite), Clockwork Revolution is a new steampunk RPG for inXile Entertainment. Set in the city of Avalon, time-traveling shenanigans will ensue, and players will be able to travel to the past and alter key events throughout history; for better or worse. 

Brian Fargo has tweeted that Clockwork Revolution will be a true RPG with branching dialogue, an in-depth character creation system, and all the stats and fine details RPG enthusiasts could ask for. 

Clockwork Revolution has no set release date at this time. 

1TB SSD Xbox Series S

Is your Xbox Series S running a little low on storage space? Yeah, that can happen with how big video games are these days.

Microsoft has heard the community and responded in kind. Come September 1, an Xbox Series S with 1TB of SSD will be available. They are also increasing the overall availability of Xbox Series X for better worldwide accessibility to their latest console. 

Gamers can pre-order the new Xbox Series S right now. Prices start at $349.

Starfield Direct

September 6 is going to be one heck of a day for next-gen gamers. Lots of new games will be coming out that day, but none as anticipated as Bethesda's Starfield. 

The first new game world Bethesda has developed in over 25 years, Starfield, is their biggest and most ambitious project yet. With over 8 years of active development behind them, Bethesda gave us the first deep dive into the world of Starfield during Starfield Direct. 

With over 1000 worlds to explore, with different locales, native creatures, hostile enemies, realistic lighting effects, world design, and gravity fields, Starfield is Bethesda's best-looking game by a country mile. 

Starfield has an expansive customization system for your character, ships, and outposts. Players can choose from a healthy list of backgrounds, traits, and skills that will play a role in character interactions with NPCs and open up new lines of dialogue and entire questlines, depending on your choices. 

Fight enemies on the ground, engage in dogfights in space, or board enemy ships and take the fight to them directly. With tons of customizable weapons to choose from, your options for combat look as vast as the Starfield universe itself.

Starfield Direct is 45 minutes of Bethesda deep diving into what is arguably their most anticipated game ever. September 6 is when we'll see if Starfield lives up to the hype.
