Learn everything there is to know about the WoW Season of Discovery Professions.
The World of Warcraft Season of Discovery is upon us so we got to talk about the Professions. As you know, these are a huge part of any server's economy and fuel basically every single endgame activity. And since the first phase of Season of Discovery will only go up to level 25, there are some changes to the system to account for that.
So we've compiled everything we could learn ahead of the Season of Discovery and will update you on any more changes down the line.
WoW Season of Discovery Professions
If you played World of Warcraft Classic or all the way back in Vanilla, you're probably familiar with all the professions and what they do. If not, here is a quick recap.
Professions are-sided jobs characters can undertake to gather resources, craft equipment or consumables, or enhance them. Each character can learn up to two professions with some of them being split into subclasses that offer access to unique recipes exclusive to them.
The Professions in World of Warcraft Classic are the following:
- Cooking
- First Aid
- Fishing
- Herb Gathering
- Mining
- Skinning
- Alchemy
- Blacksmithing
- Enchanting
- Engineering
- Leatherworking
- Tailoring
Do keep in mind that professions such as Leatherworking and Skinning feed into each other. So unless you want to rely on the auction house, picking two professions that complement each other is the way to go. Otherwise, you can also go with two of the gathering professions if you simply plan to sell them to make some gold.
Leveling Professions
In order to level professions in Season of Discovery, you have to complete tasks related to the profession. That is often as simple as crafting or gathering materials. Do however keep in mind that the level of your profession is linked to your character level. This means you'll hit the cap eventually. Phase 1 of Season of Discovery is capped at level 25, your professions will be capped at the expert level.
Season of Discovery New Items
Alchemy
Elixir of Coalesced Regret – This allows you to speak with the corpse of someone who still has business in the living world.
This seems like an item that players will need in a quest or to unlock something, maybe even the runes that are also coming to Season of Discovery.
Blacksmithing
Shifting Silver Breastplate – An Epic Breastplate with fantastic stats for Warriors and Paladins. Equipping it also adds a proc that will deal damage to the attacker for 15 seconds. It also increases your chance to hit.
Blackfathom Sharpening Stone – This item increases your hit chance by 2% for 30 minutes but only works within the Blackfathom Deep 10-man instance. It will be invaluable in raiding once it becomes available for all melees.
Enchanting
Blackfathom Mana Oil – This oil can be applied to weapons and restores 12 mana every 5 seconds for 5 minutes and also increases Spell Hit by 2%. This item can also only be used in the new Blackfathom Deep instance.
Engineering
Shredder Atosalvage Unit – This item is used to salvage the wreckage of a shredder for spare parts. Just like the Elixir of Coalesced Regret, this item is probably used for a quest down the line.
Leatherworking
Void-Touched Leather Gautlets – Perfectly made for Shamans who want to give tanking a try. This improves your chance to hit with spells by 1% and has an ability that allows you to increase spell damage by 10% and increases the threat generated for 10 seconds.
Void-Touched Leather Gloves – The Rogue tanking counterpart to the Leather Gauntlets. It also has a spell that increases your speed by 10% and increases threat generation for 10 seconds.
Tailoring
Extraplanar Spidersilk Boots – Perfect for Casters and Healers. It increases damage and healing spells by 7 and increases hit chance by 1%. It also adds an ability that will greatly reduce threat and damage taken and dealt by 30% by 6 seconds.
